in my e300d manual it says ii can set it to take raw pics other than jpg, i follow the manual and goto the settings for the sizes but it hasnt got the raw setting there?

how do i upgrade the software on it

Under the quality settings in the menu, it should be the last choice.

Usually RAW is only available in the creative modes and not in the fully auto mode (green square). Switch to one of the creative modes and you should be able to find RAW on your menus.

I forgot the obvious :) RAW is not an option in the basic modes, which explains why he couldn't see the choice.
