Btw, what ever happened to the EOS 4D, EOS 44D and EOS 444D :p ?

Four is considered an unlucky number in Chinese, Japanese and Korean cultures because it sounds like the word for "death". Canon is Japanese, so....
And actually some other companies taken notice of this and avoid the figure 4 so that they don't hurt their prospects in these markets. For example here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nokia_products#Mobile_phones) is a list of mobile phone models made by Nokia (from Finland). There's about 300 different models in the list and only a small handful have the digit 4 in their model number.

So why is there a Canon 40D and 400D then? Or or are multiples of 10 ok?

Multiples of 10 sound like "Nikon". So the names all mean "Death to Nikon."
