how to post pics?

I just tried to finally post a couple of pics... I have them stored as jpegs on my computer. I wasn't able to do it. If I use add image, it requests the url of the image... If I click on the paperclip icon, I get a brief drum noise.

Can I post pics without an address for them? ie jpegs??
If I do need an address, how does one go about that... I know I'm a neophyte, but I'd like to occassionally post things...

The brief drum noise is probably the pop-up blocker on your internet browser...
