A gorgeous late summer night. The sun setting on Lk. Champlain with sailboats and the Adirondacks and bright, blue mountain water. A wonderful opening set by Josh Ritter that was well recieved and then....

Nice pics. I saw her in Austin this past March -- I think she's going places.
Did you use flash on some of these or just have good white stage lights?

I swear, every time I shoot her, it's at that beautiful time of the evening. She just glows. I wonder if she specifically requests that time??
I enjoy her energy. This is a good set, nice and varied. I like the second and third best - #2 for her expression, and #3 because I am in love with wide shots right now.
I don't like how she leans her head way back like in #1, but what can you do? The guy from Guster does that also. But I guess they're just feeling the music.

Thank you, Frank.
There was a cornucopia of lighting that evening. The concert started as the sun was starting to set and was lighting up the stage early on. The lighting composition changed by the minute until it was dark. The concert lighting was fairly good when that became the only light source. No flash was used in any of these pictures.

Grace does tilt her head back a lot. I probably have 40 sharp captures in that position. As an impassioned artist, she really does get into her music. Amongst music friends, I have named her my 2007 breakout artist...real good things are coming her way. Her energy level is off the wall and she really knows how to work a crowd.
I am rather fond of # 3 as well because it shows the whole band in-sync with each other.
As for Grace glowing, one shot I took really does glow. It's a head shot that looks to me as if it could be a model shot, not a concert shot. Of course, I may just be smitten with Grace. ;)

I got a bonus tonight that I would like to share. I am currently vacationing in VT on Lk. Champlain. I found out earlier that one-door down and across the street is where Grace hangs out and she is staying there now. Small world, huh?

#1 is pretty... # 2 is awesome... #3 has some nice action, and I like the framing... #4, a nice, happy, opportune capture, she's cute ...#5 & #6 are very good profile captures, with open eyes and a great face... #7, a great duet pic... the "white" on left side of Ritter's face and shoulder is slightly overexposed and could use some post processing?
With all of those cozy Universities up there in the North Country, there certainly is a wealth of talent to go around... The entire area really knows how to party... especially during the upcoming heavy winter months... Nothing like staying indoors, with good drink, great company, and awesome sounds, complemented by some warmth of a cozy fireplace...

Thank you for all the comments and critique, everyone. I appreciate every comment.
I learned a couple of things on this shoot. First of all, while it's good to have a plan of action and settings with your gear, sometimes you have to change it up on the fly. ISO was changed as conditions dictated and some shutter speeds are way faster than I was used to.
Second, I am so glad to have purchased the 30D before this shoot/trip. The above shots are mixed between the 30D and the 350D. For the first time ever, I did not have change lenses while working. The 30D had the 70-200, the 350 had the 17-55. Not missing some shots that I have missed in the past is wonderful.
Third, I finally understand why shooting wide with some women can be problematic. There are a few shots from one angle that Grace appeared to gain 30lbs. Those shots will not be seen or she might just kick my ass...those VT gals are tough!
