I've been trying to get a few indoor shots off lately (still life), but I'm just not happy with the lighting.

I've made a DIY lightbox that is great, except I got 250mw lights instead of 500, so I need to go back and get the bigger ones - but I really don't like how how they get.

Keeping that in mind, I would like to get some good solutions for (non lightbox) lighting, not necessarily studio lighting. Something more portable (read, smaller) and one that doesn't get hot. Most likely, something not geared towards photography.

Any suggestions? Ive been considering one of those super bright led flashlights, and then working out some kind of diffusion for it.

I know a local pro who's really good, always trying new things, and he's actually been making some photographs lately using one of those LED flashlights that look really nice. The top one in this blog post, I believe, he used just a flashlight and a reflector for lighting; it just won best of show in local competition, going to states...

very nice, i just may go ahead and grab one of those flash lights. Plus, they are great in power outages!

I would think that you'd have to grab a good reflector at the same time. Just playing with those flashlights in the store I was thinking the way the light hit's subjects was a little strange.
