Can anyone shed some light on the 580EX II commander mode for me. I am used to Nikons CLS system, and I normally use the SB800 as a commander and it allows me to control my other flashes either in i-TTL mode or manually.
Can I also do manual control via the 580EXII? I dont have one yet, and I'd like to know if this is going to work out for me. I need to control at least 3 flashes (I know the 580EX does this) but I want to do it manually.

example:

channel A: 1/4 power (main)
channel B: 1/8 power (fill)
channel C: 1/16 power (hairlight)

The 580 Ex II master mode will do this manually. Distance indoors is about 10 metres. Outdoors, 3 metres.

M mode will cascade to all flashes no problem.

Agreed. Should work fine.

OKay, thanks. Too bad Canon seems to be higher on their speedlights than Nikon. Everything else, they seem to be a little cheaper, but not on the lights. Have to bite the bullet.

Thanks for info. Sounds about right then. I just needed to confirm before I buy three of them.
