Please let me know how I might improve this photo.
The lighting was done with a 580ex fired in to a reflective umbrella.

Hmmmm, I'd like to see the shadows opened up just a bit more on the right side. Other than that I like it.

i would have used a reflector or a white piece of card board on the left, just to fill in a littel light on the left side of teh face.

It all depends on what you want.
My tastes prefer the Rembrandt lighting, which in its simplest form is soft shadows running diagonally across the face. This can be realized with the light placed more in front of the subject and higher.
A general problem in studio lighting is that of hot spots - they can be reduced by keeping the lighting further away and use of diffusion.
