Bummer and double Bummer!!
Received my G7 today and was looking for a case supplier when I hit on this

Bloody hell the G9 with RAW is coming out in October!!
I did a search 1 week ago to make sure nothing new was coming out on the Powershot front....nothing.
Tried my G7 though...it rocks early days yet but pics same if not better than my 30D with 70-200L IS 2.8 ....now theres a statement, noticed the same old Low Canon QC standards, a dust speck (White) on the inside of the front lens, but does not seem to affect the photo's on any focal length or aperture.

Well, your G7 turned into a pumpkin the moment the G9 was announced, so you had better return it. ;)

Yeah, I purchased a G6 last weekend. Still has yet to arrive from Canada. Bought it because I wasnt satisfied that I would be satisfied with the G7 the way it was neutered from previous G series features. Oh well, the G9 cant do anything but get less expensive over the next year. Meanwhile I can enjoy a nice G6. Dont think I will be too disappointed.

I am also very happy with my G7 and see no reason to buy a G9 at this point. I use my G7 mostly for family point and shoot type stuff and its with me all the time. It does an incredible job in that role! Some of my G7 shots also turn out better than my 30D. I already spend enough of my life post processing the RAW files from my 30D. I love the fact that the files from G7 take very little if any post processing. As long as you get the exposure right, you will never wish you had raw.

I fully agree Karl, I am very keen on quality and like you spend considerable time at the post processing stage, sometimes it's nice to let the camera do the work.
Used my new G7 all weekend and love it more and more, strange though I think the camera is ugly, but boy it takes good pictures and thats what counts.
Cheers

I got lucky. I saw the thread about the G7 being discontinued so I figured I'd give it a few weeks, and BAM, G9 announced...
I'll be selling my XTi here shortly to get one, and it's waterproof housing. Weird thing is the G7 is discontinued on B&H, but it's housing is still there, the G9 is not yet available, and they don't even list it's housing yet. But all I was waiting for was Canon to show it under accessories and that's good enough for me.
Can't wait!

I was almost going to pull the trigger on a custom grip for G7, but luckily held off. A forum member elsewhere was machining and black anodizing high quality stick-on grips, a black anodized replacement ring for the front and a flat thumb button for the rear of the camera. Very tempting. But glad I waited. I had already splurged on a G7 tripod mounting plate by Kirk and a Giotto's Aegis Schott glass LCD cover. But these will work okay on my upcoming G9.
