This picture doesn't show it mounted on the 10D, but it shows the 16-35 as compared to the 24-85, the 24-70 and the 70-200/4.0.

This review here shows that the 17-40 is roughly the same size as the 16-35.

So it isn't *that* big.

Best regards,
Andy

I can't post a photo but, I can tell you this, the 17 - 40mm is a great walk around lens . . . . . and the images are fantastic.

What you call big and heavy or small and light is relative, but I think the 17-40 L is small and light. Except for the EF 50 f/1.8, it's the smallest and lightest lens I have (I also have the EF 28-135 and 70-300 DO).

Look at Canon's specification page (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=148&mode lid=8773): it's 83.5 x 96.8 mm (3.3 x 3.8 inches) and weighs 500g (1.1 lb).

Hi all

That is brillant. Thanks all of you guys. This forum is a gold mine and you are the gold. Lol whaler, people say "one pictiure worth 1000 words". well your few words have convinced as much as the fatastic photo of Burning arrow. The only downside is that i want one now! ;)

Thanks again

Dan

Big if, of course, relative.

I use 4 lenses as "walk around" lenses: 17-40L, 28-135 IS, 50/1.4, and 85/1.8.

Among these, the 17-40L is definitely big, in part because I always have the tulip lens shade attached, which is the largest diameter object in my camera bag.

I also have the BG-ED3 attached to my 10D.

The net effect is that I get a lot of attention when using my 17-40L as my tool for the day. No picture of the 17-40L with attached equipment can quite explain this phenomenon - but trust me - it's real. :)

I would say it is a nice size. I just picked it up, haven't done much with it yet but I like it already.

The hood for the 24/1.4L, the EW-83DII, works great when used on a 10D/300D. I've heard rumors that it works on a 1.3x crop camera, like the 1D.
