Has anyone seen any data that sets out the geographical breakdown of DSLR sales? I'm trying to get a handle on how many there are in the UK compared with the USA. I've seen data on the worldwide DSLR market (http://************/33bm2j) but nothing that's geographically disaggregated.

Yes, and the numbers have shifted dramatically recently with Nikon and Canon running neck and neck for market share in the dslr market. It really is going to be a hard number to come up with. If you find it, share with the rest of us. Cheers.

Try this.... it might help

My guess would be about 50% or better land on USA the rest will land in the rest of the World.

That would be interesting data. I have seen articles that show that Canon has slipped out of the lead in Japan so I am assuming that if they are holding on to the global market, the rest of the world is picking up the slack.

You think 7.5% of the worlds population buy 50% of the worlds DSLR's?

We consumer about that of just about everything else... why the heck not. Where else in the world do you see it where if a family only has 3 tvs they are considered impoverished?

There is some statistics in Canon Corporate's home page. Not sure if this is what you are looking for. This info was found on their investor relations web page at http://www.canon.com/ir/finance/index.html

If those figure are correct in showing Europe as slightly ahead of the USA in Sales then how come we get ripped off on price to such an extent? We consistently seem to pay far more over here than in the USA.

... how come we get ripped off on price to such an extent? ...
Prices are set by the individual retailers and encompass a multitude of folks all with their hands out, unless you’re claiming that Canon is charging European retailers more than others. Maybe it’s due to the number if middle men there are in the process from shippers to distributors to governmental groups, they all want a piece of your $$$

That really doesn't explain it all, as New York high street is just as expensive as the same in London. The fact that some stuff sells for double us prices just blows me away. On the other hand, I just bought a Fuji f31 fd at Jessops for less then it can be had here in the states. Go figure.

Dom, I ordered the whibal direct their website http://www.whibal.com/

It only took about a week or so to get here, which I didn't think was bad at all.

cheers
Bill

You have VAT added and other price uplifts.
