I've read somewhere that CS2 will not read
the raw files from the Canon 1d3.
If this is correct, is there any software plugin
or program for CS2 that will allow these files
to be read?

You can use the dng viewer converter from adobe and convert the raw files to dng, then you can open them up as dng files. Thats really it for cs2...

I believe if you download the DNG converter from the Adobe site you should be able to convert your RAW files to DNGs and then edit them in CS2.

EDIT: Beat me to it, Steve :)

Thanks Steve and Nick...
So I need DNG Converter from Adobe then...no problem,
will do later. Do you then run DNG as a seperate program
and then import the relting conversion into CS2...or is it run from
within CS2, like a plugin?

Sure I'll sort it when I've downloaded and had a play.

DNG is a stand alone program.

Of course you can also use the raw converter that came with the camera. You actually need to if you want to use the highlight tone priority.

Cheers Tommy, thanks for the reply..
I'll give DNG a whirl and, yes. I do use the raw converter
that came with the camera. Also find Adobe Lightroom
to work fine.

It is just that at times I need the extra vesatility of CS2, in particular the shadow/highlight feature.

Then you might want to give CS3 a testrun (you can download a trial version). You can now adjust highlights and shadows from within the ACR.

Yes, Tommy, I will give CS3 a testrun. In fact that had crossed my
mind before opening up this thread. Will let you know how I go on.
Thanks for mentioning it.

LR and CS3 use the same raw engine (ACR 4.1).
And LR can convert to .dng for you also.

So if you've already got LR, there's not a strong NEED for CS3, esp. if only for doing RAW. You shouldn't see any difference other than the interface. However, if you like the extra Photoshop tools in CS3 vs. CS2... then it may be worth it.

I use CS2 extensively and need it for many other applications other than RAW
conversion. Lightroom is fine for converting the RAW files from my 1d3, but in my original question I only wished to know if there was a plugin for CS2 to convert these RAW files. Apparently there is not, but it has been suggested I download the trial version of CS3 to compare. I'm in the process of doing this.

Thanks for your reply.
