I have built some make shift softboxes and I need to populate it with lights. I was wondering if Fluorescent works well!! The fact that there is no heat issues with them appeals to me!! Should I use a grey card to set white balancing or just change it to fluorescent?

270w isn't very much power - I've used redheads quite a bit (1000w) and its difficult to stay at 100 ISO even with that power with a softbox attached.

colour temprature should be flourescent, but try different for different efects.

Try looking at the SP technologies system with dual SP 6400's. Strobes with modeling lights, 1280ws, about the same price as what you are looking at here.
