Today I was taking pictures of my beloved 70-200F4L that I'm selling and I saw that white foam packaging tube from the lens sitting on the ground.
It struck me that it may work well for setting WB, much like a coffee filter.
So, I slipped the foam tunnel over the end of my lens, and took a shot, and set my custom WB. It worked great! And, the pictures I took were in dificult combo lighting... flash, tungsten, and a bright window.
I think this foam tunnel works so well because it gets light from sources all over the room, and sort of blends them together inside the tunnel, because of it's length. I actually keep the foam on the lens when it's in it's leather pouch for protection, so I have it with me at all times anyway.
Oh well just thought I would share. :)

This pictures was taken with flash, and a bright window behind the lens and box. Also, I had a wall light on...

Drisley,
Were both shots taken with the flash? The example would be more convincing if you left out the flash. Actually, it would be good to see results under any single, non-daylight condition: e.g. tungsten or flourescent.
Hope you find a good owner for that lens. Throw in the white foam to sweeten the deal. :)

Oh, I guess I should mention it was bounced flash, off the ceiling.
Most of the lighting was from window.
I will try some tungsten shots tonite.
The moral? If you dont own a 70-200mm L lens, get one, even if it's just for the foam tube

They might put the red ring on the tube as well

I do, too, but I don't find pacratting the boxes to be a big problem because you can always fold them flat. It's the styrofoam molds used to protect the items inside that's a big hassle since you can't flatten them!
It's a good thing the boxes for cameras and accessories are small. Try packratting all the boxes for your computer stuff!

Guess what? I do packrat all the boxes for my computer stuff!
I upgrade frequently, and I like to keep all the packaging, etc.
I have the boxes and everything for my monitor, motherboard etc.
Im doing the same now with my camera stuff.
So, anyone who buys anything from me can be assured it will look exactly as it arrived when I got it new.
cmM, I'm selling my 70-200mm F4L because it's not sharp enough for me! hehe!!
Obviously I'm kidding. I'm selling it because of that damn L bug!
Now I want the F2.8L, and I'm possibly eyeing the F2.8L IS!!!
I'm the sort of person who should just get the most $$ one right off the bat, because no matter how good something is, I'm always left thinking "well if this lens is that good, just imagine the next one up". argh!
Someone should make an L medication.... maybe zoLoft? or paxiL?

Right when I was starting to incline towards the f/4.0 ....... now I'm leaning back towards the 2.8 IS... I never held the 4.0 , but I had the 2.8L IS for a couple hours in my hand. It feels damned good ! It's just so expesive.
