Coupla Track Bike racing shots. Went down to Marymoor Velodrome on Aug 17th and took a few pics. It was pretty darn dark, I had a hard time staying away from higher ISO so some of the shots have more noise than I'd hoped.... Please lemme know what you think!

Thanks

What camera/lens do you shoot with? I have great success using flash during my velodrome photo sessions. I use flash all day as fill and also at night under the velodrome lights to brighten the riders up and eliminate shadows.

30D w/ 70-200 f4 is, or 28-135 is... I don't own a flash - other than the on camera. I used it for a few pics as it got darker. I don't seem to be very good at using the flash yet... but I'm trying. Any advice?

Thanks

Tom

yeah- get a flash. The on-camera flash won't do you any good. I think it's good for a distance of something like 10 feet max. The 430EX is cheap, yet an excellent flash. See if you can borrow one at least and try it out. I guarantee your pics will come out a lot better.

As for advice with what you have now, I don't have any. The 28-135 just is not a sharp lens. The 70-200 f/4 just is not fast enough- even with the IS. At my local velodrome, toward the end of the night I find myself using ISO 1600 with shutter speeds of f/2.8-3.2. Sure, you might be able to get away with f/4, but at the expense of having to use ISO 3200- which has the undesirable effect of noise.
