Teeside Transporter Bridge - The area is well know for its industrial history and as the day was overcast and wet I felt that a sepia treatment matched the area, the history and the bridge.

Your comments are welcomed.

David,

I really like this one. There are a couple of reasons why, first, I think that it is an excellent candidate for Sepia treatment as there is nothing in the shot that is anachronistic. There is nothing the rings more false than a sepia shot with a 2002 Ford Mustang in the background.

Also, the subject is so compelling. I look at this and I cannot imagine its purpose. It seem to be a bridge spanning a valley, but someone forgot to install the mountians. My first glance at this and then before I knew what was happening I was humming the Talking Heads "We're on the Road to Nowhere".

It is such a surreal thing, good eye for noticing it, and excellent treatment.

Interesting reading on Transporter bridges David! Pick the people and cars up, run them across the river, put them down on the other side. Every 15 minutes. Never knew about them. Thank you for sharing with me.

Some of the history of those bridges for others who, like me, never knew anything about them:

A bunch of archive photos of them:

Thanks for the comments and feedback.

2002 Ford Mustang in the background

Just as well I zoomed in and missed out the large Mercedes that was parked when I took the shot! I know what you are saying Rad, that type of shot does ring false. Have a look at the links that Ken has attached it will put the bridge in perspective for you and stop you humming "We're on the Road to Nowhere"

Thanks for the links Ken, perhaps I should have included them myself and posted this on Shared Photos - I didn't realise that some might be interested in the historical aspect. However, pleased you enjoyed it.

Thanks again...

Nice shot and the Sepia works well. Sepia toning tends to be over and misused but it works well on this sort of thing.

The Vodaphone mast (cellphone) bottom left is a bit of a giveaway if you want to be picky.

As the others I would like to applaud the choice of sepia. Furthermore I especially like the detail in the sky as well as the foreground. They both add to the drama of this "large, dark bridge in the middle of nowhere". This indeed is a picture I would look more than a mere second at!
