Sorry for the second newbie question of the night...
But for some reason, even after reading the manual on the subject, the 580EX II always is at 14mm zoom with an M setting near it. I understand that to be manual 14mm.
I have a 24-70mm lens on it, and no matter what I do, I cannot seem to get it to any setting other than 14mm. I thought there should be auto zoom from 14 to 105mm...
Any help would be appreciated.
Oh and I tried shooting in M, Av, Tv modes.

And one more thing.
The flash zoom doesn't seem to be able to change with either manual or auto. In fact it's always in the M thing when in ETTL.

Sorry - this is a 580EX II and that's not the way it works. I push the zoom button then turn the dial until the M goes off.

Hmm... doesn't seem to work.

That's what the manual says to do also.
When I press the Zoom button and turn the dial any number of times in both directions, nothing happens.
I am confused...

in manual mode, dont you have to adjust the flash zoom range yourself? i believe the guide numbers are user defined in M mode.
i think it autozooms in ettl.

Push zoom button and zoom on LCD flashes. Turn dial counter clockwise and the M should go off. The push the zoom button one more time.
Zoom the lens and touch the shutter button.

That's what I've been trying, but it does absolutely nothing.
Nothing flashes when I press the zoom button, and nothing changes when in move the dial at all after or before pressing zoom.
This is pretty upsetting since it's about 2 weeks old.

Pull the 14mm panel out, then push it back in. Make sure you push it in all the way.

Yeah, this is a simple case of the flash thinking that the diffuser is deployed, when it is not.
Of course, your flash may be broken, but I doubt it.

As has been said, a 580EX or 580EX II stuck on 14mm mode thinks that the diffuser is deployed. Either the diffuser isn't pushed fully home, or the switch has stuck.
Pulling out the diffuser and pushing it fully home should solve the problem.

Haha, now I feel dumb. Right before you said this last night, I tried it, and it worked.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Yeah I'm relieved... especially since I got it as a present.
Now I just have to figure out how to use it well... haha.
