from about 6.5 feet to a carpet... don't even want to re-live how it happened, but I digress. When the reflector and white card are retracted, the unit behaves like the reflector's out... When powered up the zoom mechanism clicks... and none of it rings "good." So my question before I turn it down this Saturday morning, is if anyone knows what it would run me to fix a broken zoom on this puppy? Is it a DIY ordeal?

Or do I just need to drop some $$ on a new one.. I need at least one to rock out on camera (just not interested in sticking another brand on camera or even dispensing with figuring that one out).

I would open it up and check. Make sure to discharge it, take the batteries out and still don't touch anything electric in it so you don't get zapped.

I would expect to find one of two things. Either the zoom mechanisem "jumped the track" or it actually broke. If it is broken you might hear pieces moving around when you wiggle the flash.

Good luck.

I just took my flash unit to Canon because the wide angle lens cracked and then started jamming once I would try and reinsert it. It cost me I believe 110.00 which is Canons flat rate price for repairing a flash - was quite a bit less than a new unit
