I've seen digital photos where the focus on the person or object or whatever is nice and crisp but the background looks really blurry which makes the person or object really stand out nicely.

How do I adjust my camera settings to make it do that? I have an A710 IS.

Thanks.

Hi,

You can use the portrait mode in Auto or use manual and make sure there is limited DOF depth of field. to do this you need a very large aperture (Low f number) it goes down to 2.8, of course you will need to adjust the shutter speed as you will be letting in more light to the sensor. this would mean using a faster shutter speed.

gemerally you would use a small aperture (High f number) for shots which need all of the background in focus like landscape shots for example.
