The sun was starting to go down and I caught his face in the light. Critique would be nice.

Would have been better had the sun been a little further off axis - that would place the facial shadows more on the diagonal instead of almost directly on axis. Also, the lighting is a bit too harsh. In this circumstance you need to soften the lighting (make it more diffuse) through any one of 3 methods:
1) Use a diffuser, such as a white cloth.
2) Use a parasol, to block the direct rays and let the open sky above provide all the lighting
3) Use a reflector to brighten the deep shadows enough to reduce the overall contrast between hot spots and deepest shadows.

completely agree with this point. great lighting, just should've had the subject turn a bit to the side to take advantage of the shadows.

It is well lit. Whenever I see kids with this silly 70s retro style hair, I see a big round head. It makes their heads look bigger and rounder. In 10 years they will look at pictures of themselves with this type of hair and laugh at how stupid they looked. :)

beautiful shot. I dont mind the lighting. Its outdoors and shows it. ....
