sooo... just wondering what all of you who know Canon better than they know themselves think - will any other cameras will be coming out this year? I am wishing for something in between the 5D and the 1Ds, basically a 5D with 49 focus points... an equivalent to my much loved EOS 3... a 3D!!!
:)

This should be posted in the rumor section, not here.
the answer though is no I don't expect anything between the 5D and the 1DM3 within at least the next 6 months at a minimum or next announcement is most likely in March 2008.

as longwatcher said...next announcement will be late feb/early march 2008
there are two big photo trade shows each year...the releases of new cameras coincide with these.

...of course... Wonder if they'll ever make something like I'm hoping... do they take requests? ;)

haha...i wish. lots of "requests" that are voiced by many on here certainly go unnoticed, but i do wonder/hope that maaaaybe canon reads this or other forums for some free user feedback.

Unfortunately the New Nikon D3 is not real competition for the 5D: FF, same pixel count but double the price . So Canon is not really pressed to replace the 5D I guess...
But since the 1DsIII and 1DIII have some of the niceties the D3 also has, like a big screen, live view etc... we may (hopefully) see an upgrade of the 5D to a bigger screen, Live View, and anti-dust (a 'smaller' upgrade, like what the 30D did for the 20D).
But hey, of course we want an all-new 16Mpix 14bit Digic3 sensor and better sealing as well

Oh, I'd be happy with, say, 14MP, a tad bit more sealing, and those darn 49 focus points! The one thing I miss about the 5D!

Ah well, maybe I don't know how to use them properly, but I have 45 AF points on my EOS3 and I find myself always using just 1: the center point. It's good in low light, and I always know where to find it quickly
And they're all too close to the center of the frame anyway. Now if only they were spread evenly all over the frame, were all equally sensitive, were eye-controlled, and had intelligent subject-following from AF point to AF point... then I'd be convinced I need them

good point on the intelligent subject-following.. how cool would that be! Still, I really like to have them all, I seem to be able to pick one (several) faster
