First, I am certainly not complaining, but I am very curious.

Last November my wife bought me a used G6 off E-Bay as a birthday gift to replace my G3. It was a private seller and she spoke with him a number of times by phone. Everything appeared above aboard and seemingly was. We received the camera and it was just as advertised.

Sometime after we received it I noticed the label on the bottom of the G6 did not have a serial number on it. I called Canon and was told that this is not unusual and I should not be concerned. I remained concerned but did nothing further.

The mode dial began to malfunction (right in the middle of the Brickyard 400 earlier this month!). I called Canon to have it repaired. I brought up the no obvious serial number issue again and they said this would not be a problem. I also told them I bought the camera used. The technician stated he knew of no issues with the mode dial on the G6 and it would cost $139.00 to repair it.

To my pleasant surprise, they repaired it as a "warranty, repair" and did not charge me. I received the G6 back last week and the mode dial now works perfectly. Interestingly the repair receipt states "NSN" for serial number.

Is there any explanation why there is no obvious serial number on this camera? Also, is Canon now automatically fixing the mode dial issue as an extended warranty repair?

its obviously not a problem you need to worry about.

the camera is now in their database under your name.

Mine has a big beautiful serial number, but it is still out of warranty. I consider you very fortunate. Congrats.
