Saving changed images....?

I have a 30D and when I load my pictures onto my computer I like to play around with the color tone, saturation, brightness.....etc. etc... I did some post processing to a image which I really liked and wanted to post the new edited version. However I couldn't figure out exactly how to save the edited version and I've been going crazy for the past 4 hours amazed at how I can't seem to accomplish this small task..... Im using the software that came with my camera. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks!

For instance I will save it onto the desktop from the digital photo proffesional program and when I open the image from the desktop it is the original.

I FIGURED IT OUT.... i had to convert and save...... how do I delete this thread?

Do you mean when you open it in another program eg Picture Viewer?
