I am thinking to buy the Gadget Infinity Wireless Flash Trigger V2 but I have a question before buying it.
I currently have a 580EX and a 430EX.
Can I set the 580EX as master and 430EX as slave, then use gadget infinity to trigger the 580EX, then 580EX to trigger the slave 430EX?
Thanks!

Can I set the 580EX as master and 430EX as slave, then use gadget infinity to trigger the 580EX, then 580EX to trigger the slave 430EX?I do not believe your scenario will work. That is because the camera and Speedlite flash units cannot communicate at all with a radio slave setup. Both flash units (and, of course, the camera's exposure settings) would definitely have to be in fully manual mode. You would probably need a receiver for each Speedlite.

Assuming you are talking about the original 580EX, then yes, you can trigger the 580EX via a remote RF trigger and the 580EX, in turn, can trigger the 430EX as a slave. But 1) you will lose ETTL functionality, meaning you will need to operate both of the flashes in manual mode and 2) you're max sync speed will drop to 1/125 or even slower.
The above setup may not work with the 580EX II based on what I've read in this forum and I don't have one myself to check it out.
I'm also assuming that the V2 can trigger the 580EX since I don't have first hand experience with the V2 either.

This will not work right. Your flashes will flash, but they will not flash at the settings you give them because they are designed to receive camera information.
The only way to get it to work is using an ST-E2, or another Canon flash as master and you can disable the master from firing. I have tried this and the master flash must have camera information, regardless whether you are using manual mode or ETTLII.
The only way to get two flashes completely off camera to work without the wireless ST-E2 or another Canon flash on the camera is pocket wizards (or the like) and use both flashes in manual mode independently.

I assume you are referring to the 580EX II, then? Since this is not an issue with the 580EX as the master (in manual mode, of course).

Unless I am mistaken, I don't think this will work with either version of the 580. Does the 580EXII have the ability to communicate with slave flashes totally absent of any information from the camera? If this is the case, I am in for a big treat since I just got me a 580EXII and would love to not have to setup using a PW for each slave.
PacAce, can you shed light on this?

Another alternative is to use an extended Off Camera Cord to hold the 580 and get the camera information, and then communicate this information to the 430 wirelessly.
There are plenty of posts in this forum about the different ways of extending this cord, or have someone like me do it for you. It can either be a fixed length of cable, or a flexible length using plug-in extensions.

I am about to do this option myself and save the PW's for bigger jobs. Basically you could extend your off camera cord via Michael's services and purchase a 50 ft. extension to fit the plugs, then drive your slave flashes, and still have enough left over for a $200 dinner at Vic and Anthonies steak restaurant:); all vs the cost of 2 PWs.

You should be able to try it and test it yourself, no? As I said previously, it's not a problem doing it with the 580EX and a slave. I can't say about the 580EX II because I don't have it and so, I can't test it.

The original 580 will work as Leo says. I've done it and seen others with the setup. With eBay triggers, I have to use 1/100 to sync up properly in master/slave setup.
I don't have 580 II either. From what I read, one can only use the built in sync port in slave mode, but the shoe contacts work like the Mk 1. So using a hot shoe adapter or the V2 should work.

You may also want to read this nice thread by Lotto regarding using the 16 channel radio slaves (one with 1/4 inch phone plug) with the Canon EX flash units.
See:

All these inexpensive radio slaves are a bit of a dice roll, but I seem to see a lot more issues with the V1/V2 design that the 16 channel units with the 1/4 inch phone plug.
This does not mean that you will definately have no issues with the 16 channel units, but it does seem that issues are less likely.
Here is a good thread on the Strobist forum:
