I just noticed 10D's in Canada dropped by $200 ($1799). I have been waiting on this. But, I know there is alot of speculation about the new replacement. Any guess on the typical Canon price difference and possible new features. I just don't want to spank myself in a few months if I can help it :-) From what I read, the 10D is a great camera and a replacement would not affect that, obviously.

I am ready to call today and place the order before stock runs out, which is my biggest concern.

Help me warm my cold feet.

I have quietly read every darn topic about this subject and I have come to this conclusion.

Nikons are better, haha just kidding. Well from what I hear and agree with, there has been no release of a new 10D, let alone an announcement for one. There is no doubt in any of our minds that there will be a newer version sometime in the future. That being said, you are looking at a very bare minimum of 4-5 months before the release of anything. They need to make announcementa then follow that up with marketing etc etc etc.

People have seen the capability of the 10D and its not like the 10D will stop working when they release another version. You will still get superior image quality. Im now in the market for a 1d Mk1 if I can find one, as we all know the superior mark II is out there, nevertheless the Mark I is still an amazing camera and is capable of very high quality photo's even though it is outdated.

If you are comfortable with buying one now, then I say go for it.

Get a digital rebel.
That way you can fool people by saying it's the same camera (G2), just new lenses!
I did that with my G3 and it works hehe.

Me too. This topic as well as "which lens to buy" (I have none). But I won't be adding that topic to the group. I got it narrowed down to 3 and going with the 50mm 1.8 first.

I was into see the sales people a week ago and told them I expect a price drop in a week or 2 and will buy. Wow, timing. The salesman was actually trying to sell me on the Olympus E-1. I listened and read online but just can't commit to the new lens system.

You're right a good camera is a good camera. I just want to hear that any 10D replacement will probably be $200 to $500 more :-)

drisley - yes, thought about that but I am not good at faking it. the G2 connected to the scope impressed few :-)

Well, bit the bullet and ordered it sans lens.

I was thinking about the 50 1.4 but now I think I may expand the budget and get the 17-40 instead as my first lens. Camera should arrive next week.

Good Man,

As for the lens, I dont think I have ever heard a single bad comment about it, other then its one of the cheapest L lenses, whatever that means.
Definatly my #1 choice for a lense as well.
If you want get a 50 1.8 as well which you can find for 70 bucks, this lens is a sharp as they come.........

Im probably one of the most well informed non SLR camera owners out there. I'm on a tight budget, well not really, im cheap is more like it. I study things before I get them like a freak. I have studied these things for a few months now and the 17-40 is a eherm a "badass" lens.

Cheers.

Good choice on the 10D. You're getting it next week with no lens? I'd go mad if my 10D arrived with no lens to test and play with.

The 17-40 would make a good first lens. I think it's good to start with a zoom. More flexibility. I started with the 28-135IS but nowadays it's the 17-40 that spends more time on the camera. Having said that though, I've recently learned how fast the 28-135 is because of IS. So they might swap positions again soon.

By the way, a 50 prime (1.8 or 1.4) is such a good lens to have. It's one of my most used.
