Well, the inevitable has occurred--someone provided a link to a MarlK II for
sale, and my impulsiveness once again won out after two false starts.
The order and shipping has been confirmed and I should have a demo version of the Mark II on my doorstep as soon as Friday, compliments of Kirk Enterprises. This looks like the real deal, guys.
I've d/l'd Camera Raw 2.2 and the SI camset_d.csd and am ready to rock and roll.

As I read the results of my search here for press credentials, I was amazed
to read about the enterprising photographers who troll little league sports
looking for parents who want to buy pictures of their little ones. Shucks!
Screw Giants Statdium; take me to the Little League fields with their legions
of parents with money to spend on my photos. I really need a means to pay for this thing. So I was wondering if one of you could post me a link that
instructs one step-by-step how to print and mount the digital shots one takes. A book that does same would also suffice.
I would surely appreciate any help.

Also, the only printer I have now is an HP Officejet Pro 1170 cse. Do you
think that printer will do the job, or should I invest in something else? And
if so, which printer? Thanks a million for your replies.

You can try this one:

http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints.html

Lot's of links and tutorials there.

As for the printer, I think you should upgrade to one of the 6, 7 or 8 color Canon or Epson printers.

The Canon i9900 or Epson 2200 make great mountable prints.

demo004 Canon EOS-1D Mark II New, never used USA camera with all USA warranty cards. Also includes the L-bracket BL-MARKII (a $189.95 value) $4525

Is this the one you bought? They're only $4495 new from B&H?????? I guess you saved a few bucks on the bracket but......... No offense, just wondering if Kirk is a place I should be watching for great deals.......

 Yes. One and the same. It's $30 more than B&H. But I get a bracket
with it that you wouldn't. The man at Kirk said my Mark II has 0 actuations.
He also said that if I send it in for warranty service, just use Kirk as the
seller and me as the home address and the warranty will be honored. Hopefully, I'll never find out, but for now I believe him.

You sound like someone who makes it a habit to keep abreast of his neighbors. Small thanks that I'm not your neighbor.

Thanks for the link dtrayers.

Not much of a busy-body, just looking to buy some new lenses and hadn't heard of anyone buying from Kirk before. I know they make a great ballhead but didn't know they sold gear. I followed the link just looking for a deal......sorry to intrude......it was just curiosity.
