View Full Version : What to do with the 300D?

Well, after a lot of thought I decided to purchase a 10D. Now my 300D sits. I really don't want to sell it because I know that I will not get even close to what I paid for it ($999.99). I have thought about just keeping it as a back-up but it seems like a waste for it to not be used.

I bought it at Best Buy in Spring with the 3 year replacement plan. I have considered trying to get store credit for it but there isn't really much at Best Buy I need.

What should I do with it, hang on to it for a while?

Any thoughts?

take the hit and move it for what u can get... if u get 500-650 for it that will buy u a nice lens for your 10d....

i paid 630 or so for my new canon 17-40L

If you shoot weddings, then you might use the photojournalist approach. Carry both cameras around your neck, with the strap lengths staggered so that they don't bump. Keep your long lens on one and the short lens on the other.

Your goal is to look like the Dennis Hopper character in Apocalypse Now.

I say if you aren't hurting for the dollars then keep it for a back-up. I know it would seem like a waste. But the day that you have a shoot scheduled and your primary camera putzes out on you, you are going to be glad that you have a decent back-up.

I mean what else are you gon'na do, use a disposable Kodak in lieu of a 10D?

The longer you keep it, the more the resale value will go down. So if you don't want to keep it, sell it as soon as possible.

I'm glad I sold my Powershot G3 in time (October last year), if I would have sold it two or three months later I would have gotten much less for it.

I've had a 300D for a few months and am eventually going to get a 10D when the price comes down. My plan is to keep the Rebel as a backup. I will probably also do the two camera thing, since changing lenses can be inconvenient at times. On a trip out of the country having the peace of mind of a second camera just in case is worth it to me.

I think you should sell it. I just bought a D300 body for 650 shipped, think it will sell fast for this price. All indications are that the new price is going down so holding and selling later will be even worse.

Another solution is to sell the 10D and buy a 1D. The 1D and D300 are so different, easy to justify having the workhorse high performance machine and the casual vacation, walk around camera. But I can't see owning both 300D and 10D since 99% of the time one would use the 10D.

Here's my approach. I too have a 300D and want to upgrade but, I'm going to wait for the 10D replacement due out this fall and keep the 300D as a second/backup body. I agree with the previous post that the 10D and the 300D are too close in features. I think you'll be doing more of a lateral move than an upgrade. My 2 cents

Is anyone here familiar with Best Buys replacement plan policy?

I used to have a G3 and when the remote broke I brought it in with my replacement policy. They just gave me a store credit... this is how I came about purchasing my 300D.

Since my 300D is in perfect condition... :?

I will call them but does anyone know if the plan includes cleaning? I think it does.
