Do you have a photo of your camera bag with your gear in it? Please share! As a newbie, I have two dilemnas: what type of bag to buy, and how to arrange it. The thread above is for the Lowepro Minitrekker but I'm interesting in seeing other brands/models also.
It was easy when I just had the 10D + 28-135IS. But now I have a few more lenses and what not which I need to fit in a bag. I bought a cheap back pack which was useless. Plus, I have a back pack for my laptop and I can't have two back packs while travelling (on the plane, for example). I bought a medium sized shoulder bag which I use now. It's a pain though for long walks as it gets quite heavy on one shoulder. Now that I have a FlashTrax, I don't need to bring my laptop anymore on holidays. So I'm looking to get a decent back pack.
Looking at photos helps a lot, I think. It gives me ideas.
Thanks,
Aylwin

I've got an older LowePro Onmi Traveller (It's discontinued now).
I like it because it has padded dividers.. I carry 3 lenses, my flash, spare batteries, my filters, lens cleaning stuff, memory cards and my remote cable release... I have several large lenses that I carry seperately.

Honestly, you don't want to see this. It is a Billingham 555, the best large shoulder bag made.
1D with a 100-400 attached, 10D with a 70-200 2.8IS attached, 17-40L, 24-70L, 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 2 TC's in the main compartment. Spare batteries (lots) and hoods in the front. Pod on the side with a FlashTrax.
Comes with a free fitness course :D

Stuff is as follows: Canon EOS 10D w/ Big Ed, Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX (monster lens) Canon 24-70mm F2.8L near monster lens, Canon 16-35mm F2.8L, 40GB FlashTrax Drive w/ extra battery, various filters, Canon EOS 50E (film), and more assorted camera kit.

Look at all these nicely arranged bags...
:x I have to camera bags but they're both too small... I can't fit my rebel + grip in the bag with anything bigger than the 50mm f/1.8. I gotta get me a bigger bag...
Cadwell, how do you carry your monopod ?

Fun thread - here's mine:
http://www.pbase.com/image/31111624.jpg
It's a Billingham 306 (a smaller version of KennyG's 555) I love it - big enough for all my gear + planned purchases, comfortable to carry, and fantastically well made.
In it are my 300D + Grip, 70-200 IS L, 28-135 IS, 50 f1.8 and (under the 50) the kit 18-44. Note the spare slot for the 17-40L when I recover from buying the 70-200, and adding a few padded flaps the 100-400 would sit nicley on top of the 70-200. It's deep enough for a flash and portable storage to fit in as well. It's also got 3 big pockets for filters, batteries, cleaning stuff etc.
Did I mention that I love it :D

Cadwell, how do you carry your monopod ?
It sits in the tripod cup and is lashed to the side of the backpack by a couple of fasteners. Works quite well.
The only problem with that bag is that it is fairly bulky but on the plus side it is very weather resistant. It's kept my gear dry in some prolonged torrential rain.

Great photos!
Kenny, how deep is that bag?! I'm amazed you can carry that around!
Canuck, thanks for your post! I was pretty much set on the Mini Trekker but this looks like a better option for me if it fits a laptop as well. It'll be much easier for me to bring my camera kit along on work related trips. :)
Are there any other back packs that have room for a laptop?
Tom, what can I say? If there's room in there for the camera body then I just might consider it.
By the way, here's my current big bag (it's actually quite small):
http://www.cal-family.org/download/cambag.jpg
It fits: 10D + 17-40, 50 1.4, 28-138 IS, 75-300 IS, 420EX, FlashTrax, BP charger and a few other small bits.

Just your basic bag but you have to imagine a 300d in there, as its my only didgital. It kinda stradles the top with the zoom lense, hood underneath along with the nifty50, kit lense, and various accesories.
Oh! also it came pre stained from a couple years of use. Only cost 10 bucks at the local used camera sture, which unfortunately is out of buisness.

Great photos!
Kenny, how deep is that bag?! I'm amazed you can carry that around!
Around 11 inches high, 7 inches deep (front to back) and 18 inches wide. It can easily take two 1D or 10D with either a 100-400L or 70-200 2.8IS attached, lens down with hood reversed.
On the race circuit I have my 1D with a 300 2.8L IS attached on a monopod over one shoulder, plus the 10D with 70-200 with hood mounted, lying horizontally in the bag which hangs from my other shoulder.
As the season goes on I get fitter 8) especially as at some meetings I can easily walk 5 or 6 miles during a shoot.
Oh, I forgot, my Domke vest has a few items stuffed in the pockets as well, including a couple of essential bottles of energy drink.

I use a Lowe Pro Elite III. Okay, so I bought it back in 1982 with my olympus OM1 gear. It still is a gem of a case.
Included is the DRebel, doubler, extension tube, Olympus-Canon adapter, flash, remote, filters, lens hood, extra battery, blower, extra memory cards, five lenses, data transfer gear, a small tripod (almost useless) for my Canon S40. Still need to figure out what to put in the old film holders. :D

Uh oh. Don't you know that self defence is illegal in the People's Republic of Canada? Especially with such an evil gun that killed so many people in the movies...
If you have a pistol, you need athorization to transfer, which outlines times and routes from your house to the range. You're gonna get in trouble if you stop to put some gas in your car, while transferring... let alone using it for bears! And self defence.
IT SUCKS WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE GUNS INGRAINED IN YOUR CONSTITUTION.

Back in the '70s, there weren't any bags that I liked, so I designed my own. I wanted to be able to put 2 cams in with the most used lenses attached, including the hood. It easily held, 4 lenses (20, 35, 50, & 105) ready for use, & the 200 fit under the lens shelf, along with a backup flash (283).
The inside of the top would capture the Velcro on the lens & base caps, so I could unscrew them with one hand.
Pouches on the sides held a minimum of 80 rolls of film (about one days shooting), & the primary 283 flash.
http://img72.photobucket.com/albums/v218/PhotosGuy/Forum%20Junk/Case_outside.jpg
When the top was flipped over to close it, I could open a compartment for gadgets, focusing screens, filters, & stuff that would get me arrested in todays airports.
http://img72.photobucket.com/albums/v218/PhotosGuy/Forum%20Junk/Case_Top.jpg
Did you notice the extra padded (postman's) shoulder cushion on the strap! It weighed in at over 20 pounds, but with one hand to steady the bag & hold my tripod too, I could go anywhere. I designed it to attach a 2nd strap for my other shoulder, but I didn't use it much after I got used to carrying the bag around.
I could also fit a small light stand inside it.
Unlike Kennys, it didn't come with a free fitness course. Part of the job provided that, by me running up & down the stairs on drilling rigs out in the Gulf.
I also used something like these waist packs when I could leave equipment I didn't think I'd need in my trunk. Lowepro Beltpacks (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Waist-Bags/ci/4338/N/4291080223)
I'll have to take a shot of mine, sometime.
EDIT: OK, so I did. This was an Aspak from the '70s & I don't think it's made any longer. But it illustrates that a belt pack can hold a lot. While I usually have the 28-70 f/2.8 on my camera, I included it here just to show what I could carry on my hips if I needed to. Other items inside are the 70-200 f/2.8, 85mm f/1.8, a Vivitar 283 strobe, & spare battery.

My bag weighs quite a bit but that just means that I've got lots of goodies... you can always lighten up a bit if neccessary. Actually I have a camera body bag which I take when I'll be shooting with my standard
EF 24-70mm L 2.8 walkaround lense. The bag is a Lowerpro Computrekker which deceivingly holds quite a bit if packed properly which is good for those that want to bring alot on a plane but are afraid of being asked to check it in. So long as you look strong with the bag, its size will prevent most from asking you to weigh it or anything. It helps to have a tiny laptop like the sony T series Vaio's. I'm actually capable of bringing on a few additional USB powered 80 gig external laptop hardrives (www.drivesolutions.com (http://www.drivesolutions.com/)) that I use to watch movies and store all of the immense files that this 16.7 mpxl camera takes (especially when simultaneously taking Raw and large JPG files) If I wanted to push it I might even be able to fit 1 pair of Bose noise cancelling headsets but that definately would be pushing it. Worst case scenario, put your headset around your neck and your wife's/ husband's when boarding.

do you carry the manuals, and such with you?
do you carry your tripod or monopod with you alot?
best way to carry CF cards and filters to reduce chance of damage?
hard or soft cases? or what?
any risk of damage to body or glass by carrying them vertical or horozontal? or does it matter?

i use the hard case for permanent storage due to strength and moisture issues. camera stays in the hard case, gets put in the car and then when i go out to go shooting, i take the camera out of the hard case and put it in the bag (or just put the strap around my neck and walk around with it). I find the combination of a hard case which holds everything, and a small softcase works for me. I might consider getting a backpack also. something i can don a tripod or a monopod to.

There are merits of carrying your equipment this way. Minimal protection from damage, but at least your stuff won't be stolen. This technique is used by many people who have to move large amounts of money in third world countries. Say for example you have a business that generates a lot of cash...real cash, like bills, not the things we call "cash" in the West. So you bundle up this cash and wrap it with some cheap plastic bags or a duffle bag that looks like a bag you use to carry laundry. You put this in the hands of a trusted person who looks like a country bumpkin and then you put him on a bus to the intended destination. Unless someone knows of what you are doing, there is almost no chance this guy is going to get found out. If you use a flashy armored car service or use some own improvised money collection vehicle, it will be attacked for sure. So when I travel, you'd be hard pressed find a camera bag on me that looks like a camera bag.

i just picked up a 7 million dollar home yesterday. it's nothing like what i expected - it's like a touristy camera bag. it has a handle on the top and you can wear it like a messenger bag. it holds about the same amount of kit as the tallee, but it's wider and doesn't have the 'hidden compartment'.
their new backpacks are a little bit better than the older ones, but essentially the same design.

I have pretty much decided on Tamrac 5608 Pro 8 Camera Shoulder Bag. there is also a pro 12 version, but i think that is too much bag for me to lug around.
the pro 8 is 85usd at BH and the pro 12 is 110usd
seems a good balance for me for price and room. not that i have 2 bodies i was just thinking about future a little bit.
i think one of the bigger selling points on these bags is the handle. it is not your regular straight handle there is a notched area thus allowing the strap to sit up on your shoulder better . less chance it seems of it sliding off your shoulder. i had seen these on one of our little field trips to the big city and liked how it hung on my shoulder.

last night i ordered the canon photo backpack 200eg because it's insanely inexpensive and has recieved really good reviews on fred miranda. I have been meaning to go out and see some Lowepro bags but haven't been able to, meanwhile my equipment has been sitting out unprotected.
i think this will be good for now.

i received my large crumpler pen pizza camera bag today. i thought i'd post you guys some pictures to show you the size, as there any around, and the crumpler sight doesn't show you to good.
i took these with the s70 on small and fine setting:

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a54/benpizza/IMG_1648.jpg
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a54/benpizza/IMG_1650.jpg
so i wanted a small bag for walk-around and it seems perfect, its fits my eos600 with a 55mm lens attached and a separate 24-85mm lens. i must also point out that it will also fit the bag with the 24-85mm lens attached to the camera and will still fit a separate lens, so there is the possibility of carrying around two different size lenses than the ones i'll have in.
as you can see the separator is adjustable and has a little flap on top, but i'm really not sure what the flap is for? if anyone can point it out i'd be grateful.
anyway i highly recommend the bag for a small walk-around.

The Tamrac belt with Travel Zoom bag, lens case, and accessory case are for use in my motorcycle tank bag.
Holds 20D with lens, spare lens, speedlite w/omnibounce, spare batteries, CF cards, compact cleaning kit. It is quite easy to walk around with.
The Canon 200DG is for when I am traveling by auto and holds all the camera gear I own with room for more.

Is anyone using or used in the past; a LowePro Compact AW? Opinions?
-daniel
I have a Compact AW. I think it is a good bag for fitting all my stuff into and to have fast access to it. I took off the two side pouches as I don't have the need for them, makes the bag look smaller :)
Easily fits 1D Mk2, 24-70, 70-200 f2.8is, 580ex etc etc.
But I don't like it if I am travelling and have to carry it around with me all day. One shoulder gets a bit sore after awhile.
I also have a Rover AW 2 which I think is a great bag for travel. It is a bit harder to get your stuff out as it is a backpack, but unlike the minitrekker bag you can get things out without putting the bag down. And it is surprising how much you can fit in there.
Sorry I don't have photos. If I find some time I'll take some.

I was looking for a small bag to carry a serious amount of stuff. Ended up with the Tamrac Adventure 75.
In the picture the bag contains:
Canon Digital Rebel XT w/BG-E3
EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM
EF 50mm F1.4 USM
Speedlite 580EX
Sigma 70-200 F2.8 EX DG/HSM
Sigma 1.4x & 2x APO Teleconverters
Tamron SP 28-105 F2.8 LD on the body
With a little reorg, it also now has my EF 85mm F1.8 USM as well. Outside pocket has more accessories, including the hood for the 10-22, cables, and my PD70X PSD. Straps on one side hold my MagFibre 694 monopod.

This is one of the most helpful threads I have seen yet. For those of us who live in rural areas without decent camera stores around, it is great to be able to see what these bags look like and what they can actually hold. I already bought one camera bag that turned out to be quite different from what I thought it would be. Hopefully, my second will be a better fit with what I need.

Tim, sounds like my bag might be one of very few that'll suit you and your needs. At one time, I've fit an XT with a 100-400L, a 20D with a 70-200L IS, a 50 1.4, an 18-55, a 28-135 IS, two 430EX and a 580EX speedlite, a 20gig flashtrax, extra hoods and filters (lots of em!), extra battery magazines for both grips, a couple of books, an iPod, a pocket pc, an sd400 p&s, a PSP, and an inspiron 9300 17" widescreen laptop. I'm probably forgetting a few things, but oh well.
The bag is a Lowepro Computrekker Plus AW. About $150 or less if you look the right place. Awesome padding, adjustable, comfortable, breathable, and extremely secure. Oh, and there's a place on each side for tripods.

Great idea. I'm certainly interested. Hardest thing about buying bags is not being able to see them in store and having to rely on specs only. That and not knowing how it performs in the real world.

Hi ,
As the title says, I`m looking for bag photos with gear inside. The reason is that I run a website called http://www.cambags.com and although there is now quite alot of bags i`ve collected on there, I recently checked what i`m missing and there is plenty.
So what I`m asking is if anyone has photos of the bags listed below (or any others) with all their gear inside i`d really appreciate it if you could forward them on to me, or even post them on this thread. I`ll also need a description of whats in the photos, check the website to get an idea.
Its not a commecrial website, I started it because I was looking for a new bag and thought it would be a good idea to collect all the photos that people submit to various forums. I have been privately asking people to use their photos but its alot of work so i`m now asking here instead :D
Thanks in advance
Paul

The Domke "Ballistic" models are functionally and organizationally the same as other Domkes of the same name - just made from ballistic nylon rather than from cotton canvas. They're not going to look much different from the "classic" Domkes of the same name. OBTW - gotta set up the F-7AF at some point, but it's not as nice as the F-1. More akin (with deficiencies) to the F-805 (which I also have - makes a great airline carry-on for computer, body & a couple of lenses). Alas, I need to replace the F-805 and they don't seem to be making it any more.

Can I ask why you thought the Exped 3 not as good? I'm thinking of the Exped 5

actually, the Exp 3 wasn't bad, it was just too small, and for the price of the canon bag, $35 shipped, you can't really beat it.

Just out of curiousity, I wonder who makes those Canon bags?

I have an Expedition 4, and it's an excellent bag - I need something bigger, though.

Chinese people operate the machines that assemble the bags. could be the same people that make the tamrac bags.

I don't have much, and I've already durn near run out of room.

I do have a tripod, but it's an old aluminum thing that's way too bulky to keep strapped to the bag. Plenty sturdy, just heavy. I'll pick up a monopod one of these days.
I'll also swap the 20-ish year old SunPak for a new 550 or 580 eventually, and I have plans for a 50mm 1.4 and a small do-it-all- zoom in roughly the same range as the kit lens, maybe with IS... depends on what I can afford.
Sometime this spring I'll probably also be adding a new or used 1Dmk2, or a new or used 20D (or possibly it's rumored successor) and a few other goodies like a 1.4 teleconverter. But for the moment, I'm quite happy with the camera, bag and lenses.

Hey Zephyr, I know you from the TGO forums. Avatar caught my eye then I noticed your s/n. I guess all us car guys have similar interests besides cars, lol
BTW, I have the Tamrac EXP 5 and love it. Not too big. I cut off the waist belt and took off one of the front straps and now that the bag is broken in and loosened up ( I carried it everywhere with me for about 6 months ;) ) I couldn't be happier.

here's a shot of the canon photo backpack 200eg with some of my stuff in it to give you an idea of what it holds. it's $35.00 at amazon. I'm not sure if i'm keeping it yet, i'd like to check out some lowepro bags on the weekend.
Can you carry a tripod on the canon backpack? For the price and size its perfect.

Yep, you'll find me over at the [H]ard forums, OffTopic.com, and a few other non-car forums. I see quite a few people from other forums on other forums quite often.
I've been interested in photography for years and just recently got my D60 DSLR.

It is quite amazing to see the 28-135 ZOOM lens as the most popular resident in these camera bags ?
Why is that ? Does this have anything to do with being a "portable" photographer ?

My new bag as described on the previous page. It's a brand I haven't heared of the brand name before. I its Mekko brand. They claim that the bag is totally based on a Lowepro bag with waterprof seals and tough zips and made of 600D ballistic nylon. So far it feels pretty well constructed. Fits all my stuff with room to expand. So If you can't afford a Lowepro for a few hundred bucks I got it for $80 from ebay US. The bag has a sling strap and shoulder straps and also a waist strap so when you put it on it feels pretty sturdy and comfortable. Although it comes in at a hefty 4KG with nothing in it, It's certainly worth the money. So it gets a big thumbs up.
PS: So far I have the following in it.
Rebel XT, Stock lens, 35 - 135, 100 - 300, Filters, macro tube, EX flash unit, batteries, a few CF cards, hard drive photo bucket, cleaning cloths, tripod on the back.

Alan B or who ever can help. I notice you have some lenses double stacked. What do you put between them?
Thanks,

I don't put anything between the double-stacked lenses/teleconverters. The bottom of the bag's padded, and there's darn little room inside for them to rattle around when I'm finished packing.

I don't have a grip on my D60 but I put a canon powerwinder under my D60 in the canon bag and it closed. The XT is a shorter camera so with the grip on it it should fit in there fine.

thanks for the info. I hope it comes soon. Its really hard on the shoulder hauling all this stuff around. But then again, not sure i want to stop using my fathers bag. Kinda sentimental as he has passed on.

Well i got the canon eg200 and the xt with grip barely fits with nothing else in it. Its a tight squeeze to get the zipper closed. Im going to have to play around with it to see how everything else fits.

Here's mine. It's a Pelican 1520 with the Pelican dividers. I used to have a Lowepro Omni Pro in it but it was a pain opening two lids and I gained a little more room this way (I never took the Lowepro out of the Pelican anyway) . The Lowepro did have the advantage of lots of pockets. Hoods are in a separate bag as are other lenses and accessories. This is the max size in range allowed as carry on which I wanted. If I put my grip on the 20D it is a bit tight and I want to store the camera with the 70-200 on so putting it flat is not an option. The grip is therefore off for now and only put on for long shoots. I like the fact this is dust proof and it keeps everything very safe. I have flown with it and although it's heavy, I do not worry about damage.
I use a Lowepro Top Load Zoom AW for camera and one lens for casual use/protection and a Tamrac Velocity 9 for hiking/long shoots.

Yes if he sits one of his lenses vertically inside of letting it lie down.
the top middle one (in pic) for example can be placed so its sitting on the glass end.
