What size prints do you offer and what do you charge for each size?

depends on your area. Some places charge more than others.

My town is crazy expensive. For people who don't give out negatives and charge only a basic sitting fee, 8x10 commonly sells for $200-$300. A 24x36 is about $3000.

I charge big for sitting instead so I don't follow their business model. My prints are uber cheap in comparison. 4x6 for $10 and 8x10 for $35.

OMG! It would have to be framed in platinum for me to pay that. Maybe I undervalue photography, but that seems exorbitant.

for some reason, edmonton has the highest print prices in canada. we have some AMAZING studio photographers here so that might be why. One guy commonly sells his huge large format prints to customers all over the world. people buying gigantic prints of people they don't even know. $3000 a pop... not bad at all. he laughing.

Really? I had no idea. That's interesting...

It really depends on a lot of things. I assume we are talking about weddings here, because it may be different if we are talking about a portrait sitting or even landscape prints etc.

So for a wedding, your print prices would depends on what your 'fee' is. Maybe you charge them a low fee to shoot the wedding and then charge a lot for the prints. Maybe you charge a lot to shoot the wedding and charge less for the prints. Maybe you charge a lot and include the files, so that you don't have to sell prints at all. etc. etc.

It is for a friend and their friends and family. I shot the wedding for $500. I think I will most likely only offer 4x6 and 8x12 prints.

Well that might confuse things even further. Are you wanting to price your prints as if they just clients and you have to make money on them? Or are you wanting to give them a 'friend' price? Or do you even want to make that differentiation?

Do you think you should include the cost of your services in the prints? or did the $500 cover that and you are only selling the prints on their own?

There are quite a lot of variables here. You really need to consider your whole business plan when setting your prices.

A quick answer might be to find out what it would cost you to have the prints made, then double or triple or quadruple that. Etc...

You wouldn't believe what portrait photographers charge for prints, the prices Lloyd has given are probably about right for here for good portrait photographers.

For friends, look at some of the online printing labs. In the UK I can get 6x4 prints for about 4p (8 cents!!) If you want to make money then pick a price you are comfortable charging to cover costs and time. i usually charge around $12 for a 6x4 and about $20 for a 12x8 - Actually 12x8 isn't a format I use much. most are 6x4, 8x6, 10x8 and are priced between $12 and $20 per print.
