Nice picture, no doubt about it. It's impressive by the size of the fly

Only remark would be that I find the composition a tad dull (nothing there but the fly).

Is the surface the fly is on sticky paper?

Thanks, Rob. At second glance I have to admit you're right. It's, well...just a fly.

BTW, It's actually sitting on a wooden table.

very nice macro. im still amazed how that fly just stayed there for you. By the time i even pic up my lens, the fly is gone.

WOW...On a wooden table?

How did you get the fly to sit still like that...did you train it yourself?

I can only imagine the patience it took you to get such a crisp and clean shot of the fly if it had freedom of movement...great job!!!

Yes, I too was surprised at how long the fly sat there. I must have a dozen shots of this guy taken over a two or three minute period.

Here's what I think is happening, although I need to test this theory. I have a homemade ring light that I screw on to the front of my lens. The gadget consists of 18 medium intensity LEDs mounted on a circular cutout from a printed circuit board. I'm curious as to whether or not the LEDs are emitting in the UV spectrum, to which most insect are sensitive. The reason I say this is that there was another flying insect on the same table and I was also able to photograph it for couple of minutes. This second insect would turn away from the ring light but didn't fly away until I had backed away. I wonder if my contraption looks like a big flower to these guys. Or maybe, to the fly, like a rotten watermelon!

I love the eyes. I wonder if the colour banding is a result of your flash?
