I am thinking about getting some prints done through MPIX.COM and see that they have the option to use Kodak Metallic Paper. It is a little bit more expensive than the normal paper but they claim it will make the colors more vibrant.

Has anyone had prints done from MPIX.COM on this paer?

I have seen some samples at the lab here in Houston and they do look nice. It has a different look to it. I would try one and see if it is to your liking...

The MPIX metallic is VERY VERY DIFFERENT. It is wild! My wife loves my flower pictures printed on it. It has a very unique quality, as if it were printed on a thin layer of foil. When light hits it right, it has a 3-dimensional look.

I would NOT recommend it for portraits or pictures of people in general, but for artsy-fartsy stuff it's worth buying a sample at least. Might be really fun for B&W.

Also, if you get metallic prints done larger than 5x7", I suggest you consider having MPIX mount them as well. Not much extra, and it will save some time and money when you have the pictures framed, which you will want to do.

BTW, I do not think Ofoto offers metallic prints. As described on their site, their 16x20s and larger are done on matte paper.

We print your photos on high-quality Kodak paper, a resin-coated, silver-halide color paper optimized for digital printers. A light source inside our digital printers exposes the photographic paper pixel by pixel. This process mimics traditional photography, in which light from the subject exposes photographic film inside of a camera. All prints up to 8 x 10" are glossy finish; 16 x 20" and 20 x 30" prints are matte finish.
