Can I upgrade from PS 1?

I have a full version of PS 4 which I used when I got into web development. I then switched to Macromedia Fireworks because it integrates so well with Dreamweaver my main development tool.

If I buy the upgrade version of CS will it recognize my old version 4 CD?
Do you know if I have to install version 4 or can I just insert the CD when it asks to see a previous version?

The Adobe site says any PS version 7 or earlier. I think it will ask for the old CD...that is what happened to me; however, I did not have version 4 before.
