Hi all, I am celebrating my 1 year anniversary here on the forum, and can not express my gratitude for the knowledge and advice I have learned from so many talented people. To all of you I say, Thank You!

Laziferous, CyberDyneSystems, Pekka, Mr Cavanaugh, Robertgross, Don Ellis, Scott Burger, RMFSports, Vegas poor boy, Tom W, Marie, Stoneylonesome, and soooo many more of you that I really appreciate. Your talent and advise has been invaluable.

I thought I would share this, just because many of you may have a similar situation, a loved family photo that has paid the price over the years of UV, dust, scratches, and in this case, water damage that glued the photo to the glass, making it impossible to separate to scan.... What to do ?

Take a picture!:)

I moved the original picture, under the glass (4x6 Black and white), into natural light and took several shots with my camera (free hand, no less) and now I had something to work with.

A photo that was originally taken of me and my cousin by Olen Mills©, 40 years ago (that part I really wanted to leave out)

Now, dup layer w/ global corrections, curves, etc. Removal of scratches, water spots, faded areas, etc. Slap on a border and any other artistic edges you desire. Now, I took a deep breath and dove in, and wanted to "Colorize" a pic that has been black and white for 40 years (ooooch!) I always wondered how Ted Turner did it.

Hummm, not too bad so far. Then It started as a "hey lets see what this looks like" then after the initial results, I was on a mission. Added a colorize dup layer, (and the cat hasn't eaten in 5 hours) FORGET, trying to find acceptable colors from the palette, or the custom colors. It (for me was impossible) is hard to eye the correct or necessary colors. So, I started pulling in photo's with similar tones and lighting that I liked, and started stealing from them. It seemed to work pretty good. No offense to my cousin ( the other runt in the pic), but time is the big killer, how much do you have? I'll go back and do him later. I did not sharpen anything, because of dealing with to many imperfections as it was, I did not want to bring them to the foreground.

Now, because I still have plenty of resolution left, I will print this crop @ (8x10) and give it to the people who are responsible for making me exist in the first place, My beloved Mom and Dad!

....I know this is nothing new to all of you PS "Rocket scientists" but one year ago I was shooting a mavica and had NO Idea how to open Photoshop, the time spent reading and sharing with people on this forum has made all the difference in my photo's, and my willingness and excitement to learn new things.

...I think Im going to upgrade to CS, what'cha think?

Love all of you!

I think you did a fabulous job, and you deserve CS to unleash all that power and creativity!

(and new complexities to get all twisted up in... )

Nicely done. Too often some of these are very obvious and the trick seems to be to stick to fairly pastel colours.
