Hello All, I'm new to the forum and its a really great place. Thanks to all who host, promote and contribute.

I like to do dirt track auto racing photography, last night I got a chance to take some Central PA 410 Sprint Car photos. I would be very interested in your C&C. Thanks in advance!

All images taken with a Canon 1dMk2. . . either a 70-200F2.8L or 24-105F4L lense and a Norman 200B Flash.

My next experiment will be with shutter speeds to see how slow I could go.

PicPrinter,

Welcome to the forum.

For my taste I like #3,#5,#6 as it shows the cars from an angle vs. straight on. Just my preference. All images are very clear and sharp. Well done!!

Does the 200B put out enough light in dim situations?

Love the sprintcars myself.

Is the #25 DeWease or is that Chad Layton?

Thank you everyone for you comments. . . . .

I saw the dirty sensor too. . . gotta get it cleaned. Shooting at a dirt track really gets everything dirty. . . .

The 200B does a nice job as far as I am concerned. I dial it down to 100 ws to speed up the recycle time. Images 1 through 6 were at dusk but image 7 was shot later in the evening ( darkness ) under the track lights which are poor at best. You think high school football stadium lights are bad you should see some dirt tracks. . . . lol. If I remember correctly the 200B has a guide number of somewhere around 160. It is about the same power as a Canon 580EX at a 50 mm lense setting. The 580EX will zoom based upon the lense and give you more power at longer lense settings which the 200B will not do but the quality of the light from the 200B is much nicer as far as I am concerned. The other draw back of the 200B is the fact that you're shooting everything in manual. . . . no auto modes to lean on with it.

Lance formerly was the driver of the 25 but is now in the 30C. Chad Layton took over the 25 for the balance of the season. That change just came about as the local sprint car silly season just got under way.

Thanks again for your comments and for viewing my images. . . . good shooting to everyone.
