I'm trying to decide which way to go with monitor callibration. The decision might be helped with the Epson 2100 printer/Eye-one bundle.
Anyone had any experience of these gadgets?

I use Spyder with Optical (it's software component)... couldn't be happier. Color consistency between my Hitachi monitor and Epson 2200 (using Epson's stardard drivers) are beautifully matched (with Epson Premium Semi-Gloss and Enhanced Matte papers - haven't tried other combinations).

Use it on both a Mac (OSX G4) and PC (XP Pent4),
Spyder supports both LCD and CRT

Thanks for your reply David, Is it the Spyder Pro you use? Also, what kind of monitor do you have.

Ditto. I use the Spyder/Optical with a Dell monitor and an Epson 2200 with the Epson ICC profiles( gloss, semi-glosss, premium lustre). Prints and monitor look the same.

Martin, I use an Hitachi CM720, and have tested A Dell Latitude (laptop LCD), 18" Dell Monitor (don't know the exact model), a Sony Pent4 VIAO w/15" built in (also an LCD) and an G4 Titanium 15" LCD. The Hitachi is my primary image processing monitor.
Yes, I use Spyder Pro (but the calibrator is identical on both versions)

You can make an accurate profile with ColorPlus, but check for upgrades of the software on ColorVision's website (http://www.colorvision.com/sup_dl-upgrades.shtml). It seems that some people had problems with crashes etc. with the very first version of the ColorPlus software.
The only difference between ColorPlus, Spyder and Spyder Pro is the software. The Spyder device itself is the same.

After using Spyder Pro with Optical for a couple of years, I finally decided it just didn't consistantly cut it, so I have recently bought Monaco Optix XR Pro and it is considerably better in results, the clarity of the process and the documentation. It costs about forty dollars more, but its worth far more than the difference in price. The Monaco Optix XR Pro is now considered by professionals and advanced amateurs to currently be the best on the market. Better than Spyder, better than Eye One, I say, by a considerable margin.
ColorPlus is an entry level calibration kit which is certainly better than software only calibration such as Adobe Gamma.
I have two Sony GDM-F520 21" professional monitors on a Matrox Parhelia 256 graphic card and a Canon i9950 printer. My prints match my monitor about as well as it can possibly get between emmissive and reflective outputs. No kidding.

This seems a very responsible answer to your question.

Thanks for the article J, it's very good and bears out my experience, except the bit on the Pro about dual monitors.
Windows only allows you to profile one monitor, but using the Optix XR Pro I managed to calibrate both monitors within a hair of each other which is in itself a revolution, and profile the primary monitor.
