I'm looking to take some shots, was considering buying 16-35mm 2.8L USM and 24-70mm 2.8L USM, is this a good combination for wedding photograhpy. all advice is welcome

24-70 f2.8 and 85 f1.2.........or 35 f1.4. All L of course.

These would be my choices.

I just did a christening using the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8. Didn't miss a shot.

I used the 24-70 2.8 most of the time for both candids and portraits (in addition to a 50mm 1.4). I only used a wide (Sigma 15-30) for an overall ceremony shot...it would have been used for the 'front of the church' shot but it was raining. I didn't use any long zooms because no photography was allowed during most of the actual ceremony. Be sure to ask the wedding coordinator what is and what is not allowed...this might influence what you bring.

I'd agree with your initial impulses.. 24-70mm for 90% of the shots and something wide when you need it.. the 16-35 f2.8 being the top chice in a zoom.

I'm sure there are times that the 70-200mm may come in handy.. but I'd be worried the wide end then the long in this case.

When my partner and I shoot a wedding, we do it side-by-side. He shoots a medium format film camera, and I shoot a Canon digital with 1.6 factor. We line up our tripods side-by-side, and we kind of like to make the shots match one another. So, with the differences in lens perspectives and so forth, at least one of us must use a zoom lens to match up with the other. So, I nearly always use my 28-135mm zoom.
