View Full Version : How do you find models?

I guess majority of us use friends and family, but what about the rest of you?

I have seen a few glamour shot pics in the sharing forum. Gorgeous looking girls in (at times) skimpy clothes. I have so far liked the shots, but can't help wondering how the photographer has 'found' his model.
Can't say my friends would be thrilled if I asked them to pose half nude/in skimpy clothes...and I admit to having declined being the object of such a project.

Would love to know who you all use as models. :)

P.S. And I'm still hoping to see some male models in glamour shots...

One thing you can try is this;

Yeah, getting some shots posted on a website like the one CDS suggests above should bring models looking for you if your work is good. You might have to hire two or three initially. The rest you can take on for exchange in prints.

You can advertise at local college campuses. I know when I was in college, that is what my dorm-mate did and he found some interesting (to say the least) models and some dates too from his bulletin board postings.

Good Luck.

word of mouth that I own a expensive camera landed me a phone call from a girl looking to expand her portfolio...naturally only having 4 months experience I saw it as an awesome learning op and the shoots are simply in exchange of each others services.

but now i have a car event I was asked to attend, a 3k wedding ring to phtoograph for a girl, and 2 offers to do wedding which I turned down...

yeah i find people ask me or ask my friends to ask me.... but i like to use my friends... they are a great confident, stunning and deep... the lense just drinks them.... and we are very comfy with each other.

a suggestion go to your nearest gym... you will find attractive people there who love to make themselves more attractive and would be willing to share their attractiveness with you.

I would say family is your best bet, besides the fact you will probably be more comfortable with them, especially as a beginner, you also leave room for error, a cousin, sister, aunt will porbably understand alot better if you dont get many great shots.

I have 2 young aunts who have both offered to pose once I get going. I also go to the gym daily, as geisha mentioned, the gym is a good spot. Trust me, if you are looking for girls who like to flaunt their looks and are fit as hell, the gym is the place to go.

Have you ever heard the saying "strangers have the best candy"?

Back on topic...
I'm lucky enough to have a very tolerant and attractive girlfriend as well as some uninhibited friends.

I find that if you can get a few great photos under your belt it makes life much easier. It's amazing how many people will be willing, if not seek you out when there is the prospect of some great photos of them.

I find models everywhere. Family (somewhat limited), friends, friends of friends, friends of friend's friends (aka word of mouth), the internet, other photgraphers, shooting events/workshops, agencies (expensive unless you have killer work and can manage an exchange). It's a great idea to carry your portfolio with you EVERYWHERE. Show pictures to people and start by slowly building the material you want to have.

So, start with shots which show nothing and find models willing to do implied (nude but nothing showing) nudity. Many conservative girls, for instance, will pose topless if they can cover their nipples or perhaps hold a freshly removed top in front of their breasts. Guys? How about underwear. Or shirtless in jeans? Start from there and build.

Main thing is be prepared to show your pics and talk with people about them. Be prepared for most people declinging to be photographed at all. Of those who agree, some will surely agree to some level of nudity even if only implied.

I also recommend getting simple buisiness cards made. You can talk wiht people and then offer them a card. No pressure on them to commit on the spot. If they decide they would like you to photograph them, they have your contact info. Easier than asking them for their phone number or trying to get them to write yours down. My card has my name, phone, email, po box address and a simple reminder of what i do.
