No need to post it everywhere...
As I explained over there, you can also do batch RAW conversions with the software that you got with your camera.

Update it to the EOD Viewer Utility 1.0 It's much faster.

Skipper,
You've had an unread PM,.. a "Personal Message" waiting for you in your in box since about 5 minutes BEFORE I deleted the other repeat threads... and moved this one here to post processing.. where it would be appropriate.
Also,. you should have received an E-mail message from "Forum@photography_on_the.net" informing you of the new message in your PM In-box.
So yes there was communication.. I am sorry you were unable to read the PM I sent you or check your e-mail.
This is the message I sent;
Your Irfanview post ... please in the future limit your posts to a single thread in a single forum.
I moved the one in "Critique" to "Post processing". The others I am going to delete so that the replies will remain in one thread and be easier to follow.
Thank you

Oh, then I guess my question was deleted too so I repete it here.
How do I convert CRW with Irfan? I have the plugin and all required DLLs but all it does for me is extract the embedded JPG, so I assumed that was all there's too it. What am I missing?

Honestly.. I can't figure out if it will convert or just extract the embedded jpeg?
I did get the "batch conversion" Dialogue though.. but honestly.. my install of Irfanview is all "scwewy"
Here's how to get the Batch dialogue.. try it see if it works for you.
Open Irfanview in the browser mode. Select a number of thumbnails of .crw files in a given folder.
Then simply right click on one of the highlighted thumbnails...
In the drop down menu select; "Start Batch dialogue with selected thumbs"
Then the batch conversion dialogue will open for you.
Make sure you cahnge the output file directory to an appropriate output folder.. on my PC it was the ubiquitous and wholly unacceptable C:/windows/temp by default :(
Anyway.. this is as far as I could go.. when I start the operation it dispays an error message as does no conversion/extraction. Perhaps I did not install the plug-ins correctly? If it had worked I'd be able to tell if the file was converted or extractred because the .crw had a small jpeg embedded.
Anyone else know?

...Just looked at the IrfanView website.
I have not taken the time to find and install all the Canon .dll files needed to make the .crw plug in function.. so perhaps if you have taken these steps it will work for you.

It's the DLLs that comes with Canon's soft anyway.
I tried what you suggested. It "converted" 4 CRWs in less than a second. The JPGs look peculiarly alike the embedded ones, same size too - i.e. small. Exactly what I get when I just open a CRW with Irfan.
I fear this is all there is unless someone has any other information. :P

Definately sounds like it is just extracting the embedded Jpeg.. I guss I won't bother installing all those .dll files

Well, at least wait until someone says it actually works for them. :)
I have a feeling the good Mr Skiljan would write it up a little more too if his soft really converted RAW.

Actually I found all the .dll files in one locataion so I thought I'd give it a try...
After installing the .dll files I did a "batch" and it definately made a "conversion" not an extraction.. the resulting jpegs were full 3072X2048 pixels.. My 10D is set to small jpeg embedded which extracts a file only half that size.
But the conversion software is of little use... there are none of the RAW options that other RAW utilities offer.. (including the Canon software) it just gives a quick and dirty way to get jpegs out of your CRW files.. whoich one could do easily with the extraction of an embedded jpeg?
So I'm not at all sure what the point was for including the feature?

P.S.. unlike your "less than a second" it took quite some time for me... I wonder why the same command is giving you an extraction and me a full conversion that took a few minutes? (four files as well)
