Hi guys,

I've had a conversation with a local dealer and he told me that Canon will introduce a 3000D dSLR for approx 650 euro.
Anyone heard something like that :?:

It's a pity neither of you read mikeg's post properly. He wrote 3000D (three thousand D) not 300D...

The fact is, Canon (almost) never announces new cameras before they are actually introduced. Anything you hear from someone else than Canon is only speculation and rumour.

I would especially not trust sales people, most of the time they have hidden agendas because they're only interested in selling you things and having you come back to their store.

Check the rumor sticky... you'll see lots of references of a new 10D .. but precious little about a new Rebel.... the Rebel/300D is not quite a year old.

Ah... 8)

I have yet to hear any word on the 3000D.

It won't be the 300D successor, it will a new product in canon's lineup. Something even more affordable

I've read rumors of a new, even cheaper DSLR by Canon...basically, it will be a consumer digital camera without the features of the 10D/DRebel but that will take different lenses.

I don't really see how they could make a cheaper EOS body. I mean if they take anything away from the 300D there won't be anything left !!

maybe they will just lower the price to 600 euros :D

From what I have heard, the body isn't cheaper, the internals are. It's basically going to be an A80 that takes interchangable lenses (probably at around 6MP).

you can always stick your 300D/D Rebel over the BBQ for a few minutes. that's what I did - it now has a nice matt-black finish. It doesn't hold very well though, so you have to do this every 2 or 3 days to keep it black.

Mmmm,it's certainly possible-one has to wonder why they would do it if the camera is only slightly cheaper but i guess they have been offering exactly the same model options in film cameras for years.

Maybe they need somewhere to put all those sensors that fail quality tests for both the 300D AND 10D :D .Hey it does make some sense

Basic plastic camera with idiot modes (but importantly -still has creative modes as all canon SLR's do :) ),slightly slower frame rate and buffer than 300D (1.5 fps?),less /simpler features, abit chunkier than the 300D because it uses cheaper, slightly bigger components in some areas? (like the current 3000n),definitely EFs compatable, maybe comes with kit lens as only option(? prob not, they don't usually do such things)

Overall it is very possible and fits in with canon's way of doing things in the past
Nikon (and soon pentax) are competing with the 300D in the sub us$1000 class so it's time for canon to set the next serious low cost benchmark

You know.. I did read something about Canon's "roadmap" as far back as maybe January.. December..? Anyways.. shortly after the Rebel release but pre-MkII official...

The article made mention of a very affordable consumer DSLR... but this was so theoretical at the time it did not sink in. Wish I could remember the source.. but it was a canon marketing ... probably come to think of it .. it was just prior to the PMA buzz.. like around the time canon announced it was going to release like 35 new compact digitals.. or whatever the number was.

I think all Canon would have to do is keep driving down the price of the 300D. They must've made a bajillion dollars from it already, so it's in the perfect position to be the entry-level camera. Sell it for $500, and get as many people "invested" into Canon lenses as possible. Then when they replace/upgrade, they stay in Canon. With so many people buying cameras these days, they don't need to make much money per unit.

It's just like my theory about printers... The printer is cheap, the money is made in the ink sales...

To bolster "Volatile's" point a little. I own mostly Canon manual bodies with FD lenses. I picked up a Rebel G at a garage sale for a play around camera for next to nothing. Since I have gotten more interested in the 300 and 10D, I have begun outfitting the little Rebel with lenses, flashes, strobe frames, bounces etc. . .

I've read an article in a french magazine called "Reponses photos" that Canon will introduce a canon 3000 D with a 6 M pix sensor for around 600 Euro while others dSLRs will reach the "10 M pix barrier".
This will be the mood for Canon in 2005 as they say...
