Has anyone tried the 8x32 CrystalVue Optics SharpShooter Lens with the G2?

It looks like it could be a really nice lens for getting right up close from a distance.

Of course I expect to see some black borders around the photo since it is a 37mm thread but I wonder if one couldn't just chop a reasonable photo out of the middle?

I'd love to hear any personal experiences before I risk $150 plus interantional carriage on one of these babies...

Hiya,

I emailed Tom (I think) from CKC Power about this lens. His reply (which I can't find now) said that the vignetting is too great on G1/G2 cameras.

There is a new lens referred that can be seen here (pre-production):

I'd say, sit tight. :)

Thanks - I'm aware of this new lens but it's zoom is only 5/6x as opposed to the 8x linked above.

Ah well - looks like I will havve to continue searching...

True, but when you combine it with the 3x zoom of the camera, you are looking at 15-18x vs 24x (which is different in a way, since you're used to being limited to 3x). If a significant part of the image is useless due to vignetting using the 8x, then what you gain in zoom is lost in cropped pixels.

Well I think that I would settle for 5x or 6 X. I cannot see buying a "box" to view the LCD (although it can be an impossible chore.. and sighting sounds like trying to find Saturn with a hand guided telescope!

And, my first shot would be my "Blue Heron". Before my G2 arrived, I have watched this guy gulp down gold fish. Now he is always 100 yards offshore. And this is the best that I can do with the L(Superfine) jpeg setting!

Keep us posted. This is a nice compromise. We have to be sure that it is not too heavy for the camera however.

Just an update. A picture of the Crystalvue LX has now shown up on their "prototype preview" page.

Hopefully this is a sign that they're close to production ...

For those interested in higher zoom check out http://www.indevco.com/setup/

Click on the images to see the zoom and click on the link at the bottom to see the equipment and how it goes together.

oooh. swanky. Not sure I'd take that hiking though. :)

Is it hard to focus?

Mind Socket,
Any idea as to price? Thread size? Weight? Vignetting issues? This thing looks incredible, and much more portable than the telescope setup. I guess I'll have to wait for more info....

slejhammer,
No idea apart from what the web page says, so little or no vignetting and compatible with G1/G2 (using adapter rings methinks)
