Nice to hear man, I want to go into journalism. But I will definatly want to do all sorts of photography.
I really weighed my options and came out with, I will be doing what I love to do. As long as I have good equipment, a nice little studio, Money doesnt matter as long as I dont live in a cockroach house........ If I make good money, its just gravy. I think you are doing the right thing if you are comfortable with your decision and feel that you will want to photograph things for the next 50 years.
I looked at it this way, If I can give a voice to even one poor soul that needs some help, I will be happier doing that then having all the money in the world.
Cheers.

Good place to start, I just started a year ago and wish I would of made the choice 20 years ago. Most schools have things where you have to go in order so that you may understand the basics.
You may want to look up Brooks in Cali it's supposed to be one of the top schools in the nation for photographers but It cost big $$$$
Anyway good luck and live your dream

I have to tell you, I wasn't too hip on photo-journalism... until I bought warphotographer. It made me want to sell everything I own, and put all my energy into getting started with photography as a profession... as a means to help people... a way to tell the truth to people who won't know it otherwise.
I'm not as ambitious as I'd like to be, however, so that idea faded with the next buzz of my alarm clock. That, and the thought of putting so much into my work, that I may not get a piece of tail for long periods of time... that was enough to put things back into perspective :? I wish I weren't such a guy, but... "I need it"
Joking aside... I wish you both the best, and hope it all comes to pass how you envision it. I've viewed images from both of you, and I believe you both posess the natural talent needed to be successful in this line of work.
Carpé Diem.

Damn that documentary, I watched it and 1 week later my car went up for sale................The same car that so loyaly and regularly got me "tail". I guess you should look for a girl that thinks buying a Canon 1Ds is the only way to spend money properly, I know I am.............hahaha
I think support from your family and peers is the most important thing. It builds confidence and drive!
Cheers.
