Don't those come with a hood?

I'm not sure about the 100-400mm but I have the 70-200mm f/4 L and it came with a hood. I wouldn't replace the hood with a third party petal hood. That hood is designed for the lens. A third party compatible hood is not designed for that lens or focal length.

Will be looking for petal style hoods for the 70-200 F/4 and 100-400.....Why? The hoods specified by Canon for those lenses (and provided with them) are the best hoods to be used with them. Each is specifically designed for the individual lens.

The 70-200 f/4L uses the ET-74 hood.

The 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS uses the ET-83C hood.

Either way.... only buy original Canon hoods. If you struggle to get one at a good price.... take a look at Aazon or Ebay (but only original hoods).

There was a discussion about this many years back. The hoods on those lenses were designed for use on a 35mm camera and so, as the argument goes, not as efficient when used on a 1.6x crop body. Maybe that's the reason the OP wants a different hood for his lenses. But it's just a guess. Or maybe he just lost them and needs replacements. :)

Ok if you cruise eBay and type in petal hood with the mm spec of the filter threads you have you can find good cheap ones from Asia. I own a couple for my 50 and 85. Had one for my 70-200 f/4. Why? To have a hood that was smaller but still have a hood.

Stop complaining about the stock Canon hoods being "correct". If we all did what Canon thought was best for us we'd use their stupidly overpriced CF cards, only use their lenses and only use their software.

Here is a great petal hood supplier:

In addition, the hood in the ad is a thread-mounted hood. That is far inferior to the bayonet-mount Canon hoods when you consider the fact that a hood often gets banged around while on a lens. A thread-mounted hood will impart the energy of collisions right into the inner-workings of most zoom lenses while the Canon bayonet-mount hoods transfer the energy to the non-moving outer shell of the lens. That is a HUGE benefit for the original Canon hood design.

I am guessing (but, of course could be totally wrong) that the OP wants the petal-shaped hoods to "look cool" or something along that line rather than to have more effective blocking of stray light.

Here's the hood for the 100-400. It's included with the lens...

The 70-200 also has an included hood...

Why spend more money for something that comes with the lens? It doesn't make sense to me... People on here are willing to do with lesser quality products (i.e., third-party battery grips) for the sake of saving money, but will spend money to replace something they get for free?
