its not where i work its what i am doing at work, photographic journalism is far more important to me as a goal, but just to have a job taking photos and living from that would be cool...

I don't have any long term goals  It's only a hobby, and with summer in full swing, I find myself losing interest in it more and more. I like to kayak, skim, and surf. When it's a nice day out, and I have to choose what I'm going to spend my day doing, 99% of the time I choose one of my other more adrenaline pumping hobbies over photography. Maybe that will change with the weather :?:

So, long term? Keep enough interest that I don't feel like I've been wasting my money on it.

Man... working for a living sucks. It keeps getting in the way of all the fun things I like to do

I have one simple goal:

I want to take a picture good enough that when everyone looks at it they say, "Man, that's a great picture," and really, really mean it.

Just once.

Until then, I'll make do with insincerity. It seems to be the best I can do to this point.

Two goals:

1) I'd to feel like a photographer and feel like I really know what I'm doing.

2) I like to produce truly praise worthy work and be recognised by at least one other photographer as someone who knows what he's doing.

Nah Chris! it's more apt to change with age not the weather.  Photography take less effort and is easier on the old bones and muscles.

I want to take a picture that makes me say "Man, that's the best shot I've ever taken."

And then, some time in the future, I want to take a picture that makes me say "Man, that's the best shot I've ever taken."

And then, some time in the future, I want to take a picture that makes me say "Man, that's the best shot I've ever taken."

And so on. Forever.
(And hopefully without too much time in between each "best shot")

I want to become good enough to earn a living from my photos. It is the only thing I can think of that I would enjoy doing as a career. I made $60 Saturday. :D (Hey, it's a start)

Two answers.

1: (semi-realistic) Get better at my hobby to a point where people will buy my prints as art work, and hang them in galleries etc.

2. (semi-fantasy) To be able to have photography be my way of working out in nature with wildlife for a living,.. as opposed to just a hobby.

I want that next camera that hasn't been made yet. You know the one. The one that is so much a part of you that you don't feel like there's a camera between you and the image.

The most important thing for me is to keep enjoying photography. It makes me travel to places and look at things that I would never have seen before, all for the sake of that "picture".
My long term goal would be to take just one picture and look at it and go "That is perfect, I dont need to take anymore." and still want to travel and take pictures of many more things with the same enthusiasm.

To make copius amounts of money, rock out with the finest and eat like kings.

..i mean, isn't that why we're all into it?

Mine is simple: to be able to translate the picture in my head of an object into an exactly the same photo.

For me, I'd always have to remind myself that it's a hobby. I'm not here to try and make money off it. I figure, if I ever try and label myself a pro, or if I start charging for what I shoot, it will no longer be fun for me. Expectations can get a little too high sometimes, and I don't wanna feel as if I always HAVE to try and "deliver".

MT

long term - I want it to always be fun. I suspect (strongly) that would preclude doing it for any form of compensation.
