View Full Version : 2007 Goodwood Revival Meeting

Well, I thought that the Men's National Autograss Championship would be the best event I would attend this year. How wrong I was! This was my first time at Goodwood, and it was simply an amazing experience. The 10 hours round trip in the car was worth it for two days of fantastic cars, famous drivers and the best racing I've seen in a long, long time.

Enough waffle, onto the pictures!

#6 A beautiful Alfa Romeo - they really should make cars like this today.

#8 This car was the only Austin Healey running, and is a very rare 100/S. I have a connection with this car so it was a delight to see it running. Thirty eight years ago, on his way to his own wedding, my father in law bought this car. It had junk piled up on it, the engine was in the boot and it was about to be scrapped. He had it for around 8 years before he had to part with it. After that the car has been around the world, racing in Australia and all over Europe. My father in law was able to sit in the car, and believe it or not, the same key ring that was with the car 38 years ago was still attached to the key. To round it all off, the car came second in its race.

It was great to meet up Glenn, Andy and Kevin from the forum and special thanks to Glenn for his knowledge of the circuit, the extended test of a certain lens and lunch on Saturday!

As usual any comments or feedback are most welcome.

Cheers,

Simon.

Welcome home Simon. Hope you didn't have too many problems passing back through passport control ;)

What a lovely set of shots and the story about the Healey is fantastic. I often wonder what happened my Dad's old Lotus Cortina (and kick myself for not having it every time i see one). That Ferrari is gorgeous too. I saw it at the Silverstone Classic a few months back.

I sense something different about these shots though.... ;)

Thanks Geoff. Very long drive, but worth the trip.

It's been a long day, so you'll need to help me out with the last comment. I will point out though that none of these were taken with the lens ;).

That's what i was getting at. I haven't heard from the owner of "the lens" but the difference is definitely noticable ;)

Thought that's what you meant - as I said a very long day, and not much sleep since Thursday.

#3 was taken with my 120-300 f2.8. The rest were taken with a Sigma 500mm f4.5. My credit card and wallet have already taken cover

Nice set of images. Wonderful background story about the Healey.

But what a disappointment I had forgotten about the Revival meeting yet again. Spent sunday 'killing' myself hedgetrimming:evil: I really am going to have to mark the 2008 calendar as soon as we get one???

Thanks Peter.

There won't be a new lens straight away. As Geoff has already said, the season is all but at an end. Weight wise, the 500 wasn't too bad.

Thanks Alan. I hadn't realised Alfa had made so many different cars before my visit to Goodwood, and each one was just stunning.

'tis a nasty vicious rumour in which there is no truth whatsoever :p

Very nice photos, Simon. I like! I might get around to sorting some of mine out this weekend!

Thanks Glenn. I'm just about through one of the two days worth of shots that I took :D. I had a bit of an itchy trigger finger with all of that lovely tin circulating on track .

Very nice indeed Simon. I had completely the opposite problem to you amazingly Simon. Shooting through the crowds meant I lost the will to live so just watched the racing after a while. I assume you had one of the fancy arm badges? I don't know what a "Press Guest" badge was but my word did it get you nowhere!

Quite enjoyed sitting and drinking beer all day on Sunday though :D

No arm band of any description. I was there with my family purely for the enjoyment of seeing the best collection of classic race cars that I'm ever likely to see.

I will say that I didn't move around too much though.
