Ever since the days of theG1, The G family has always been the king of the hill by a long shot, even a years after introduction. At long last I see the 1st potentially worthy competitor The Nikon 5700. (even if $1.2K) It seems to have all that’s missing in the G2, i.e. zoom & grip, some bells and whistles, with out the unnecessary (for most of us) pixel overload, and with a full list of accessories. If picture quality will be classic Nikon (unlike the 5000 !) then Canon be aware. I honestly hope Canon have the equivalent up there sleeve. Any one know something ??

There's a big industry trade show coming up apparently. I guess we'll see what's going on in the R&D labs then.

PS. I personally don't find 4MP to be pixel overload at all. That's most of the reason I chose the G2.

Agree 4 MP isn't an overload, neither is 5, but any thing beyond that isprobably unnecessary for normal and > normal applications. I'd rather the research $'s be spent on better lenses, and refinmenent of an existing product, and also - faster file save (a function also of pixel size) etc...

to me, the nikon 5700 is not a direct competitor to the canon G2...not in price, specs, nor features. rather, it will compete directly with the replacement for the canon pro90IS (whenever that comes out...hopefully soon).

"with out the unnecessary (for most of us) pixel overload...."

Huh? How does a 5MP Nikon 5700 not have pixel overload compared to the 4MP Canon G2?

Will the introduction of Nikon 5700 cause Canon to reduce price for G2? Any market talk on that?

The new nikon is ugly and huge. I wouldn't get it. I would much rather have a larger lens so a camera could support good zoom lenses, than a freaky looking bulky block of one.

Even though ive just bought a G2, the Nikon5700, from what sample galleries ive seen of it looks formidable, but then again... at that price it wants too!

I loved Nikon's 35mm cameras, but I haven't been turned on by any of their digital cameras. In addition to Canon making a great camera (G1 & G2) for the money, the fully support RAW as a standard feature. Nikon seems to continue to overlook this feature. The D1 has the feature, but Nikon has the nerve to charge a few hundreds bucks for it. This attitude has turned me off with Nikon when it comes to digital cameras. As far as I'm concerned... Canon rules the less than $1K digital market!
