The Lesser Yellow-leg can be distinguished from the Greater Yellow-leg by its straight bill (the Greater has an up-turn bill).
Great weekend for shore birds. In addition to a Red Knot and Bonaparte's Gull at Ottawa Beach at Andrew Haydon Park, there were a variety of other birds like Stilt Sandpiper, Semi-Palmated and others elsewhere.
A group of Lesser Yellow-legs were feeding near the shore when one of them suddenly took off. I had to react quick (barely seconds) to capture this one in mid-flight. I didn't know what I had captured until I uploaded to the PC. I was pleased with the position of the bird.
