Hey guys, I got the chance to shoot the AMA Superbike Races at Road Atlanta this weekend. It was my first time shooting motorsport. About half my shots were in focus (dang Autofocus on the 350d). I shot these with a 70-200 f/4 L. Let me know what you think. I can take criticism, I need the help. Thanks. ~ Austin

Oh, and no PP on these aside from a resize and Crop

I'll have more coming as the week wears on. I took over 1700 pictures, 800 of which I can keep. About 200 of them turned out good and about 80-100 turned out as portfolio worthy.

Great panning, & they seem nice & sharp. A good first attempt at the bikes!
Only negative is that they seem a little underexposed.

Keep up the good work!

I thought they may. The metering on the XT isn't the best, especially in the conditions I was shooting in today. That and the fact that my Macbook has a monitor that doesn't show true colors hurts me a bit.

Very nice shots but I will agree that they are a little underexposed. Other than that they look very sharp and the panning is great.

I'll be back at Road Atlanta for Petit LeMans in October.

Great panning shots. Dont forget to look at the histogram on the XT's screen to make sure your getting the exposure you want.
GO GREEN!!!

I like the compisition of them. They seem a little under exposed but I like the shots. I really like #1 but I am a little biased. :D

I'll be redoing them now that I have a calibrated monitor to use. It makes a huge difference. I never knew.

Certainly a good effort for a first try at shooting bikes, I agree however that the exposure is a bit out, but I also think that your choice of corner at that time of day wasn't the best.

When you shooting bikes it is really important to keep the sun behind you or on the underside of the bike. If you look at your shots you will see that the side of the bike that is laid into the corner is very dark, getting your exposure right will help this but making sure that you are on a particular corner when the light is best is a key to getting good shots consistently. Most of the time this means that you spend alot of time walking around the track.

Again, a good first effort but a few little things can make a huge difference.

nice shots, but personally i'd like to see them without the angled crop...even though the tail is missing the last is my fave

Others have commented about the exposure. I am put off totally by the tilted pictures, the tracks flat so why not keep it that way.
Sorry but tilted shot's of bike's and car's just bug me.

I just learned something. I didn't think of that. Duhh!!! It's funny how things come out when you or others make minor mistakes.
Thanks!
