My first time shooting football. Our local HS played the number one ranked team in the state...you can imagine how hard it is to shoot a team that essentially didnt get to touch the ball much and didnt tackle much...Anyway, out local team is NOT the white team....LOL

1. This is the opening kickoff...yep, you guessed it 7 zip on the first play of the game...and it DID NOT GET ANY BETTER....LOL

2. This is their kick off. one of the FEW we didnt fumble...
http://superdiver.smugmug.com/photos/190635991-L.jpg

3. Not a great picture, I left it in anyway, since he is the starting quarterback who got knocked out of the game on this the first play from scrimmage....

4. Hits like these will keep the receivers feet on the ground the rest of the game...

5. and again..
http://superdiver.smugmug.com/photos/190638952-L.jpg

6. and still....

7. This guy an for over 300 yards in the first HALF! Needless to say, I got TONS of pictures of him....LOL

8. This sums up out first half, I imagine the 2nd half was no different, I left at half time and it was 48 zip and they were taking it easy on us....LOL..I went to shoot girls volleyball....LOL

I play Sohi in two weeks. We lost to them 29-20 at state last year, and 13-14 in regular season.

nice pictures though, hard to not blow out the highlights and get the shadows with those jersies.

Thanks! I am glad someone recognized the colors harshness and didnt blast me for it..LOL...you are sooo right about those white jerseys! I am sure you guys will do better then we did...our program is SOOOO new and we have NOT alot of kids to pick from....LOL

Yep, when you live in a rain forest grass is next to impossible to keep grass on a field, much less keep when you have 15 feet of rain on it and 100 kids with cleats tearing it up...LOL...you would THINK that all the rain would help, but its actually a detriment to grass...now moss and swamp we can do...but its hard to play on that stuff....LOL

Yeah, what is the deal with this...I see this all over the sport forums in SPORT THREADS...

I figured you SHOULD post sports in the sports forum on a sports thread. I dont mind posting in the right place, but what makes this the wrong place?

Precisely. I'd rather have individualized feedback, thanks.

And, Superdiver old buddy, you've come a long way! Fantastic captures. Keep up the good work. :)

As for the post in a different thread comments...I wonder if it is someone just going around pretending to be someone of authority...kinda like a prank?

I dont have a problem posting in the right forum, but I just dont see why this is NOT the right forum....makes me wonder....

Unless the rules have changed drastically this is the right forum!

Unless you're making the argument that football isn't a sport and needs to be in the urban or people section... ;-)

I rather think it's that someone wants more posts in their thread.

Someone (me) wanting more posts in my thread - now dosn't that sound stupid...

In fact some of the BEST THREADS on POTN (IMHO) are the Combo threads. Take a look at these threads:

So with about 30 avail threads on each section's main page - very quickly a thread can get pushed into the back pages never to be seen by the majoirty.

That's why I think it's a good thing to post American Football in once central thread

Great idea, but the tone of your "request" is pushy. I think the smaller threads are better and that you get more response when you are polite:)

superdiver .. I have not covered football yet but plan to soon. What part of the field do you spend the most time? It always seems there are buses in the background of the football pictures.. I see them on a lot of posts

I have been on this board for quite a while, I have read all of those threads and even posted in one or two, I do think however that superdiver's thread about his pics is neither the time or place to be debating this. It is his choice to post his pictures in either his own thread or a common one.

The light looks odd -- I've never seen anything like that but, then again, never been to Alaska!

Try exposing about +2/3 stop more to get under the helmut/facemask --- That light and scene looks like something to set up custom WB for and Manual on the camera.

Like I said, never been to Alaska, so my advice may be complete sh*t but I do hope it helps somehow.

BTW, the lower you get to the ground, the more your shots will take on the dramatic look in the last one posted w/kids.

#5 and #6 are excellent captures.

That's good advice for trying to get under the helmet a bit more, remember that the trade off for that is probably going to be really hot or blown white jerseys.

Yeah, its the LIGHT that made my pictures look funny..NOT ME...God knows....LOL..Just kidding, I am SURE it was me....LOL

The problem I am having is that

1)on my old XT I had to shoot +2/3 and it worked out great...but on my 30D it seems to be over exposed set at zero much of the time. Wouldn't my whites blow out of I shot at +2/3. Would they recover if I tamed them down in PPing the RAW pictures?

2)in this case the white were so bright (mostly cuz we couldn't tackle and get them dirty) and the maroons are so dark I was afraid I would loose my shadows...does that delema make sense, or am I not wrapping my mind around it correctly?

As far as the field goes, the only people there with "cameras" are me, the paper guy and a two local TV crews who show the games on public access channels. Lets just say, I have free roam of the sidelines and I know everyone...LOL...I will try to get lower and shoot more into the helmets next time. I think there are only two more home games, so we will see if the weather cooperates...

maybe I should think about it like when shooting a bright BG as opposed to a dark BG...shoot to the right for light and the the left for dark..?

You are SOOOO right...I dont have a decent BG to shoot against. I went all around the field, either fences, buses, bleachers or cars...so I went with my "crop em tight" theory....LOL
