This thread is for showing off what the "wrong" lens choice for the subject can really acheive.
I'll start by using the 135L for motorsports.

Thanks, Pete. I saw plenty of guys yesterday with white lenses, I tried mine, but wasn't happy with it. The superior focusing speed, sharpness and contrast of the 135L was just perfect for me. A tad too long at points (hence the tilt). Next time, I might try with the 100mm Macro and pre-focus.
Come on and post, Pete. I know you have reams of excellent examples!!

Great topic!!! I'm sure I have plenty of pic's I could use but before I post, can someone point me in the right direction and give me a link to a thread that talks about the "right" lens to use for the subject you're shooting?

About 75% of the threads in the Lens section will cover that for you.
Just do a forum search for "what lens should I buy to shoot xxxx"

Pete, you really need to be hosting your shots on photobucket/flickr/whatever, the compression is totally killing the impact of those shots. I know what I'm looking at, but other people would think you're a bad photographer (or that you've got a "soft" copy").

Really just highlighting the fact that lens have their uses, not jobs. I took my 100-400 with me to that race meet. Plenty of other people also had theirs and I'm sure they go great shots.
I just wanted to be a bit different and I'm pleased with what I came away with - tack sharp, colourful shots. It's not my fault that people with big white lenses have shots that are slightly soft... ;)
