Hi,
I good a stuborn stain on my G1 Lens. Other than using those lens clearing fluid, can I just use water? (Just to wet the stains on the lens and than clean it with a lens cloth?)

Also, if there are minor scrathes on the LCD display, what can I do to remove it or the scrathes will be there with me for life? (My warranty for the camera is over)

I've picked up these cleaning tips from Photo.net and other photography web sites:

First, blow off any dust or dirt, or it can scratch the lens when you clean it. Use canned air if necessary.

Next try breathing on the lens and rubbing (gently) with a 100% cotton swab like a q-tip. Or use a lens-cleaning tissue or microfiber cloth.

If that doesn't work, try dipping a tissue/cloth in pure ethanol - NOT rubbing alcohol - and cleaning with that. Never put liquid directly on the lens. There are special-purpose cleaners for multi-coated lenses and filters, but some manufacturers (Nikon in particular) recommend not using them. Not sure why.

Last, try something called "residual oil remover" which should eliminate the must stubborn of stains, like oil from fingerprints.

As far as scratches in the LCD, I am afraid you will have to live with them, unless someone else knows of a solution...
