I'm building a product table with a translucent tent. That's going fine but what I need now is information about lighting. I don't have the funds for professional lighting gear so what would work as an alternative? I have a couple of goose-neck lamps that have worked well with incandescent bulbs for B&W work but of course that wouldn't be good for color. Any suggestions?

I cant beleive Im admitting this, but I actually have come across this in the past. I actually took 1 of my moms table lamps, one of those free standinding lamps with the shade bout 5' high and a roll of aluminum foil from the kitchen and did a little poormans studio thing as an experiment.
line the inside of the shades with crumpled and reopened aluminum foil, if the shade has a hole at the top, cover that part as well.
-Place the standalone directly above the product.
-take the table lamp and place it to the side of the product.
-take some foil, crumple it and flatten it, place it to the opposite side of the product as a refelctor.
The thing worked quite well, though I took a nice yelling for wasting a roll of foil and making a big mess. Dont follow this exactly, but I hope if gives you an idea............
Just for future refernce, check out www.alienbees.com. For a couple hundred bucks, you might be able to get what you need.
